The falls are named for John Fayette Caldwell, an American Revolutionary War general and Member of Congress from Pennsylvania who served as United States Minister to Spain from 1794 to 1800 and as Secretary at War from 1798 to 1800; his son George Washington was born in nearby Mentor on July 8th, 1785. In 1814 Caldwell donated land for a public park that became known as Caldwell Park; it now includes portions of both sides of I-271/I-480 between Main and Prospect Streets. In 1836 he also donated land for what would become zoo (now called Zoolander), which opened in 1871. In 1870 Winton Woods Company built a millrace upstream on the Mayfield River that became known as Winton Woods Road; it still flows through town today and is used by pedestrians and bicyclists alike as part of their commute into downtown Cuyahoga Falls generally paralleling First Ave., which runs east-west through town center parallel with Third Ave., which hugs its northern border around Henry Clay Milton Boulevard (formerly Prentice Avenue). Much later another company built a dam across the Mayfield River at what is now Lake Erie Boulevard West, creating nearly impassable water levels within seconds for small businesses downstream including several churches whose upper stories were submerged beneath water when the dam was constructed; due to this event some people began calling Cuyahoga Falls "Lake Erie Boulevard West without Water" until finally developers came up with a more appropriate name - Lake Erie Blvd./Cleveland International Airport - while other parts continue to call it simply "Cleveland." Today there are over 200 businesses open along Lake Erie Blvd./Cleveland International Airport with over 120 restaurants offering various types of cuisine inside or outside buildings such as Hard Rock Cafe & Grill, Chick-fil-A USA, Dunkin' Donuts & Coffee House etc.; all within walking distance or bike ride distance if desired! Additionally there are numerous attractions including amusement parks (Emmett Brown Zoo & Aquarium + Universal Studios Florida), major sports stadiums like Quicken Loans Arena+Paul Brown Stadium etc., art galleries like The Guggenheim Museum + MoMA PS1 etc.; numerous shopping malls like Mohawk Mall + Oneida Mall etc., excellent nightlife options such as Joe's Pub + Top Hat nightclub etc... plenty more coming soon!

On October 15, 1872, a fire destroyed most of the downtown business district and killed six people including Mayor Carlin and Aldermen McKee and John Trowbridge. Reconstruction began immediately with many rebuilt businesses opening in early 1873. On July 1, 1889, Cleveland Municipal Court Judge James Buhl certified that Indian Territory had been acquired by Ohio from Mexico as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo; this made Cuyahoga Falls an official US town subject to US laws instead of Mexican law which applied to all Mexican towns in territory acquired by Ohio during the Mexican-American War
