Coshocton is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Ross County. The population was 21,693 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Coshocton has been named "America's Best Place to Live" by Forbes magazine and "The Heartland's Most Intelligent City" by SmartAsset. In 2008, Forbes listed Coshocton as one of twenty finalists for America's Next Top Cities.[1] The citizens were asked to recommend an innovative business or community development project that could benefit their area;[2] after reviewing over 2,000 submissions, Coshocton emerged as the winner and was given a $25 million grant from the National Institute on Aging to develop a "smart city".[3][4] The history of Coshocton dates back to 1814 when it was Ahtna Township (now part of Ross County).[5][6] The town site was first surveyed in 1816 by John Constable and his brother-in-law George Washington Smith. They named it for General David Coxcomb who had served with distinction in the War for Independence and later became governor of Georgia.[7] After years of debate, Coshocton selectmen voted on February 17, 1853 to become an incorporated city under the name Dayton.[8][9] On December 8th,1854, Dayton granted incorporation to what would become known as Cincinnati because there were no other towns within miles looking for incorporation status at that time. Today Cincinnati still uses this name although its boundaries have changed several times since then including annexing more neighborhoods until it covers most of downtown[10][11]. In 1870 Revocation Order No. 1 took effect which repealed all municipal rights previously held by Dayton residents including voting privileges,[12][13]:191–192 This order also abolished directory assistance services which were provided by two private companies called Directory Company & Directory Agency Ltd., now Verizon Wireless Incorporated (DAC) and Geico Insurance Company (GIC), both chartered memberships in local government organizations chartered pursuant to section 901(a) RCW ix citizen subscriptions thereto paid into said organizations trust fund Each member thereof holding office during good behavior ended such membership effective immediately upon notice given publickly either through advertisement or written warning delivered personally or sent expressvia registered mailto each subscriber at least once per year All DIRECTORY COMPANY MEMBERSHIP TERMINATED WITHIN THREE MONTHS AFTER NOTICE GIVEN PUBLISHED OR SENT EXPRESSLY VIA REGISTERED MAIL TO ALL SUBSIDIERS AT LEAST TWICE PER YEAR

Coshocton is a small town in central Ohio, located on the confluence of the Coshocton and Thames rivers. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. From its founding until 1801, it was part of Pre-emption Township. In 1801, it became a Village under the name of London Grove. On December 15, 1907, as a result of an act of the Ohio General Assembly, Coshocton became part of Athens County. It received its current name from John Coshocton, who donated land to the village for build a school and other public buildings in memory of his parents. The community experienced some growth during World War II when many GIs brought their families to live in Coshocton; however, most growth came after the war when new housing developments were built and businesses were opened.
Coshocton was founded in 1812 as a part of the Shawnee nation. It became an incorporated town in 1903. The population of Coshocton was 71,813 at the 2010 census.
