In 1931, the city of Cleveland began offering an experimental public service that allowed citizens to view art exhibits at the Cleveland Museum of Art using special glass lenses called "Cleveland Optical Co-operative." The program ended in 1933 but the idea behind it lives on today - providing access to art for everyone. This gave photographers and artists alike an opportunity to develop new ways to capture images without having to purchase expensive equipment. In 1979, Coshocton became home to its own international optical fair - The Ohio Optic Showcase. Today, The Ohio Optic Showcase is one of the most important events in optical accessory history and is always held at Expo Hall on Main Street in downtown Coshocton. In 1916, a company by the name of Bendix & Company became associated with the telescope business in Coshocton. The first large telescope to be built in Ohio was erected at Mount Wilson Observatory in Cincinnati by the Western Electric Co., using materials from Bendix & Company's optical equipment. In 1924, J. M. Semonge moved his optical laboratory from Cleveland to Coshocton and continued manufacturing optics products until his death in 1960. His son, Johnathan Semonge Jr., took over the family business after his father's death and continues to produce optics products today under the brand name "Johnathan Semonge Optics."
Coshocton is a town in Lorain County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The early history of Coshocton is unknown but it is believed to be founded by three brothers in 1792. The first post office was established in 1814. Coshocton became a city in 1903 and has since experienced significant growth both commercially and socially. In 2007, the town voted to annex more than 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of rural land adjacent to its downtown area which will provide much-needed housing development and job opportunities for the community's residents. Today Coshocton offers an abundant variety of cultural experiences - from its popular music festivals to its annual Oktoberfest celebration - that make it one of the most vibrant cities in Northeast Ohio. With over 2,000 residents who are active within their local communities, there's never a dull moment when exploring or living in this small town!

Coshocton is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the Scioto River. The population was 7,853 at the 2010 census. The name "Coshocton" was given to the town by General David Wilkinson during the American Civil War as part of a location for military hospital supplies and for his cavalry retreat from battle. The townsite is located on what is now Wilkinson Boulevard between I-71 and US-621B highways. Coshocton’s first post office opened in 1837, and its first store was built in 1839. The community was named after Captain John Couch, who had been killed while serving with Ulysses S. Grant’s army during the war. In 1847, local residents voted to change their name to Coshocton Township because it sounded more like an English word than “Ohio Township No 2 (now Mentor).” The township government changed its name back to Coshocton Township in 1854 when it became part of Ottawa County, Ohio. In 1870, a group of settlers purchased land east of present day Coshocton Creek from the Delaware Indians for $5 per acre ($120 total). This area became known as Little Miami Valley and today includes much of eastern Ottawa County including parts of Miamisburg and North Royalton along with portions of both Greenville and Athens Counties in Western Ohio. The settlers began farming this new land and soon founded mills that produced flour, cottonseed oil, cheese, eggs, butter and other goods for local merchants and consumers alike. By 1890 there were six businesses operating in Coshocton; four stores operated individually under different names until 1935 when they all merged into one store called D&W Lumber & Hardware Company which still exists today as D&W Supply Co., Incorporated.. A post office called Cushocton was established at this time but no mail went through because there wasn't enough business here to warrant such a service.. In 1905 Approved Post Office #2 was established at what is now corner of High Street & Elm Street just south of mile marker 24 on I-71 near milepost 231 This original approved post office also served as village hall until 1915 when it burned down.. In 1916 Approved Post Office #3 was established at intersection of Elm & High Streets across from modern day homebuilt shopping mall which replaced old post office building This third approved post office served until 1984 when it too burned down within months due to poor management practices by then owner/manager arcadia plc who would later be bought out by Comcast cable company who kept it until 2003 A fourth approved post office opened at corner Dayton Road & Elm Street east side just north side current day high school which functioned as village hall until 1985 before being closed again.. Finally an approved post office reopened at junction Interstate 71 / US 621B about 5 miles west side off highway just past present day mill where truck stop used to be situated prior to construction starting on expressway
The Coshocton area was first settled by the Shawnees in the early 1800s. In 1812, General Anthony Wayne and his army invaded Canada and successfully defended the Ohio River against British forces. The area was soon renamed for General Wayne, and numerous businesses and homes were built in the town during this time. The population of Coshocton grew rapidly after World War II, thanks to the influx of soldiers and their families. After years of growth, the town reached its peak in the 1960s when it had a population of over 10,000 people. However, as economic conditions began to improve throughout Greater Cleveland in the 1990s, Coshocton slowly lost its status as a major center of commerce and culture. Today, it remains an important community with a rich history that is home to a number of cultural attractions such as museums, art galleries, opera houses and more.
