Coshocton is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, on the Mahoning River. The population was 25,898 at the 2010 census. Coshocton is part of the Dayton–Daytona Beach metropolitan area and it is adjacent to Greater Cincinnati and its two sister cities – Over-the-Rhine and Piqua – on the north side of the river, while Dayton lies to the east and unincorporated Muskingum County lies to the south. The first Europeans to enter what is now Coshocton were French traders who explored the area in 1795. They named it "Chocouti" after a small town in France where they had been trading for some time before their explorations began. The first settler in what is now Coshocton was Myron Hixon, who arrived in 1802 from Sandusky, Ohio with his wife Anna Ladd and their son Nicholas Hixon. He built a log cabin on an spit near present-day Manchester Avenue and State Route 912 about three miles (4 km) west of present-day downtown Coshocton. In 1810 he sold his land to John Mumford for $1 per acre (0·80 hectare). Mumford started farming with his new land, but he lost interest in it after few years due to lack of rainfall or good soil quality. He did not improve his land much until he bought additional parcels from others during a period around 1830 when prices for land were much higher than they are today; this increased demand forced Mumford to improve his farm again starting around 1840s because profits would no longer be enough to support him without more income coming in from other sources such as agriculture or mining activities which then developed close by along I-77/I-271 motorways which made travel between these locations easy becoming one big market town soon known as "COSHOCTON". In 1847 local resident James Wiegand erected a wooden frame schoolhouse called Wiegand's Schoolhouse which served as both a daycare for children living nearby as well as providing instruction for adults using materials brought over by Wiegand himself from Westerville, OH where he owned an implement store also known as White’s Store & Implement Emporium which operated until about 1850 when ownership changed hands several times until finally passing down through 2 sons - Myron & Charles Wiegand - who opened up shop next door from 1959 until 1986 when it closed due to fire damage however parts have been restored back into operation each year since then known simply as The COSHOCTON School House Museum currently open daily 9am-3pm except Wednesdays when hours are 1pm - 3pm Admission free

The city of Coshocton, Ohio was founded by one man, George Washington. The town was originally called "Washingtonville." When the first settlers arrived in what is now Coshocton, they were farmers and hunters. Over time, the town developed as a small trading post and farming community. In 1814, Congress passed an act creating the county of Stark County. This created new boundaries for the town and made it part of the new county. In 1831, a local minister named John Campbell started a school in Coshocton that would become one of the largest schools in Ohio. The school became known as Campbell University which still exists today. In 1857, Cleveland's first railroad reached Coshocton and made it possible for people to shopping at larger stores in the city. The city also began to grow rapidly with businesses opening up such as breweries and hotels. One of the most famous residents of Coshocton was General James Kappe who served during World War II as commander of United States Army Forces Europe. He is also known for his contributions to baseball which he helped start in Coshocton decades ago
Coshocton was founded in 1824 by George Washington Carleton. The city was named for Colonel John Coshocton, a Native American who had helped the United States during the War of 1812. The city rose to prominence as a manufacturing center in the late 19th century and early 20th century. In 1916, Coshocton became an incorporated community with its own government. In 1951, the city merged with neighboring Parkersburg to form the present-day Ohio City Community School District.
