Conneaut is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Conneaut were French traders who landed there on November 12, 1795 and named it "Conseaut" after Louis-Jacques Conte, an officer with the Royal Navy. The town was founded in 1800 by James Fenton and others as a small settlement on the east bank of the Maumee River. The namewas changed to Conneaut in 1802 when a post office was established at what is now Main Street. In 1814, land was acquired from the Miami tribe for $5 per acre and development began; schools were established in 1816 and churches built in 1820. In 1830, construction began on the Cuyahoga River Road which connected Cleveland and Akron; this road became known as State Route 9 en route to its current terminus near Euclid Avenue in Akron today. In 1836, George Stephenson built his first railroad line between Cleveland and Akron; this line became known as the Erie Canal Company's Bruce Road Railway (later operating as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railroad). The town of Conneaut reached its peak population during World War II with over 100 residents due to wartime production at General Motors Corp.'s Toledo Assembly Plant located there. During peacetime, many businesses closed but some continued operations while others relocated or closed altogether because of competition from larger towns such as Canton or Youngstown. By 1970, only 10% of original residents remained within town limits while most people living outside annexed territory formed new neighborhoods within town limits including Broadview Heights/Northeast High School (opened 1966), Northside Mall (opened 1984), Oneonta Shopping Center (opened 1990) and Exeter Village (opened 2006). Many properties withintown limits have since been demolished such as those developed around FirstEnergy Stadium subsequent to approval of plans for a new stadium by Mayor Patrick Kennedy prior to his appointment by Governor John Kasich during that year's gubernatorial race which led to succession challenges among then local officials over who would lead state government when he left office later that year having served one term since taking office earlier that year following his election victory over incumbent Josephine Stricker . The Kjaergaard Taser Gun was used by the Norwegian police forces during their counter-terrorism operations. It consisted of a metal tube that had two electrodes attached to it at one end, which were fired by means of an electrical current through a wire. The development of tasers began to take off in the early 1990s when they were finally approved for medical use by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Tasers have since been used in many different ways all over the world, including law enforcement, corrections, military, healthcare and even self-defense.

The area that now makes up Conneaut was originally part of the Shawnee Indian Reservation. In 1807, General George Washington's army passed through the territory on their way to fight in the War of 1812. As a result of this event and other events along the way, settlers began moving into what is now Conneaut Township in 1814. The first store in Conneaut was built by James Gorman in 1816. By 1830, there were 10 stores in town. A post office was established here in 1836, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first schoolhouse located here was built in 1838 and served as the primary school until 1915 when a new building was erected. This old schoolhouse still stands today as a museum within town limits. In 1840, Daniel Wojtaszek founded the village of Parkersburg on land he had purchased from the Shawnee Indian Tribe. Parkersburg became an incorporated village on December 15th of that year under the name of Conneaut Village.. In 1865, several families decided to move from Indiana to what is now Conneaut because of its good location for farming and ranching activities which were becoming more important due to increased transportation costs caused by Union troops occupying Ohio during the American Civil War (1861-1865). On October 8th of that year,,the first wagon train arrived at Station No.-4 near present day Summit Avenue with 227 passengers including 34 children who had ridden ahead on wagons pulled by four oxen provided by John Hutton & Brothers Ltd.. This initial group set out to build homes but soon realized that they would need to purchase land before they could begin production or construction work could commence on any kind of house or farmstead themselves; this proved difficult given that most available parcels were either too expensive or not suitable for their needs due to lack of trees or other necessary features such as water availability or flat terrain which would have been essential for housing development back then (). A meetingwas called on November 2nd where representatives from various local farms offered acreage for sale if only buyers could provide some form Of security against possible future floods/fire etc., this offer quickly gained popularity among those looking for land so they could begin building without having much assurance about their ability to actually live on it once completed (). On December 12th 1860,,a Act entitled "An act providing For establishment And Government Of Shawnee Nation" (20 U S C § 1492) Was approved by Congress making Indian Territory part of newly created United States . This change allowed Indians living east thereof (currently eastern Pennsylvania) full access rights to all aspects of federal government administration including schools/health care etc., something which would benefit both these groups very much since most residents west thereof continued living traditional tribal lifestyles (). In 1806, the firstsawmill was built, and in 1810 an gristmill. The town became a commercial center during the 19th century, with a variety of businesses operating here including grocers, apothecaries, restaurant chains, and construction companies.
