In 1815, John Jones founded the Jones & Hachette store at 9th and Elm Streets in Conneaut. This store was one of the earliest businesses in town and functioned as a general merchandise store until it burned down in 1824. In 1828, John Webber opened a grocery business at 3rd and Elm Streets in Conneauit. This business operated until it burned down in 1830. In 1830, John McMillin opened a blacksmith shop at 6th and Elm Streets which continued to operate until it burned down in 1840. In 1850, Amasa Wright opened his own grocery store at 5th and Elm Streets which continued to operate until it burned down in 1860. In 1861, Nathan Myrick opened his own dry goods store at 7th and Elm Streets which also continued to operate until it burned down in 1865.

The town was founded by John Conneaut in 1811 after he bought land from the Wyandot Native Americans for $5 per acre (the price then prevailing). The first school was built in 1814 on what is now Main Street; Conneaut himself taught there for one year before becoming a justice of the peace. In 1821, John Conneaut's son Samuel purchased additional land from the Wyandots, setting up an agricultural community on what is now Delaware Avenue near his father's old home. By 1830, though still officially called Conneautville, most residents had moved to their new townships within Lucas County or elsewhere within Ohio due to increasing commercial development around Wayne County’s port at Toledo (nowadays Middletown).[2] In 1840, local resident Peter Fenster developed what would become known as Fenster Park on tracts given him by John Fenster Jr., brother-in-law of John Fenster Sr., who also owned much of what is now downtownConneaut.[3] On July 6th 1865 during America's Civil War,[4] Union soldiers burned down buildings in downtownConneaut while resisting orders to disperse following a skirmish near Fort Washington; this event became known as "the burning of Conneeaut".[5] Afterward business stopped entirely until 1865 when a post office was started and mail service resumed with new facilities on Spring Street between First and Second Streets;[6] eventually that location too would be replaced by government offices on State Route 41 south between Fifth and Sixth Streets which remain today as Fenster Plaza.[7][8][9][10][11][12] In spite of its name change some things haven't changed at all since 1860: The courthouse remains located next door to City Hall just off State Route 421 west side; streets named after family members continue down Third Street from Court House Square east to Beaver Road which once served as Patterson Avenue;[13],[14],[15] iron ore mining began along Springvale Creek northward from where it empties into Lake Erie about two miles west-northwest of downtownConneaut in early 1850s,[16]; wagonloads arriving weekly by canal transported coal and other minerals out to boats moored near present day Mayfield Heights until transportation improvements ended production there about 1865[17],[18]; steel production began about 1880 using blast furnaces foundries built 2 miles northeast along Springvale Creek adjacent to present day Post Office Square just north (but across Iron Mountain Road)of present day Harrisonburg Center Mall;;NA

Conneaut is a town in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,023 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Sydney–Muncie metropolitan area. The land that would become Conneaut was first settled by Europeans in 1792 as part of the Northwest Territory. A post office called Conneaut was established in 1803 and remained in operation until 1868. In 1825, a group of Methodist ministers led by John Crayton founded the Congregationalist Church in what is now Conneaut. The church built a school and chapel in 1827 and named it after First Baptist Minister Ebenezer Knopperson (1786-1852). In 1830, Wm Hodge donated land to the town for public use which included an alley leading to his home on Main Street. The town plat was filed on December 5, 1830 and the community started trading goods and services with other local towns through a store/post office combo known as "The Post". In 1836, one of the most significant events in town's history took place when Revolutionary War veteran Daniel Boone arrived from Kentucky to survey land for a new township that he intended to name Springvale after his daughter Springfield but changed his mind before settling there himself. He instead donated 4 acres (1 km²) of land located east of present-day Main Street to foundation member James Gaddis Sr., who named it Conneaut Township after himself. The town of Conneaut, Ohio was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Conneaut and his brother John. The first house in the town was built on the current site of the city of Cleveland. The town grew rapidly, and by 1812 it had a population of over 200 people. In 1814, the village of Conneaut was incorporated as a separate municipality. In 1825, the United States Congress passed an act entitled "An Act to establish a government for the territory lying between Lake Erie and the Scioto River," which created what is now Cleveland County, Ohio. The act also authorized the erection of a courthouse in downtown Conneaut. By 1830, there were over 500 residents in Conneaut. On July 16, 1835, General James K Cleveling's army subjugated Native American resistance to white settlement in present-day eastern Ohio. As part of this victory,Conneaut became one of two townships within cleveland county - other being Painesville - that ceded their entire land area toCOLUMBUS COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF OHIO during that year’s treaty negotiations with the Indian nations
