A group of engineers from Conneaut, Ohio, banded together in the late 1800s to develop a new type of mount for artillery pieces. The group's design was based on the idea that artillery pieces could be moved around by attaching them to trees or other stationary objects. This innovative mount became known as "scope mounts."
A scope mount is a device that attaches to the barrel of a rifle to allow the user to place the firearm in any position they please while viewing the target. The first enlargement of Conneaut's existing mount was on October 5, 1875 when the town voted to add a new square in the center of town. The square was located off of Third Street and Main Street. On July 1, 1903, the City Council passed an ordinance that authorized the erection of a new city hall and park on First Avenue between High Street and Park Road. This marked the first time that a municipal building had been erected in Conneaut. On November 3, 1912, the City Council voted to annex part of Conneaut Township into the city Limits. This annexation created a new district within Conneaut which included most of today's east side including portions of Second and Third Streets as well as parts of Fourth Avenue and Old Main Street. The annexed territory also included what is now north-central section of downtown ConneauT
Conneaut is a town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 4,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton-Cincinnati-Middletown, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Conneaut were French traders who visited the area in 1795 and 1796. The community was named for Captain John Conneaut, an officer with the British Royal Navy during the American Revolutionary War. A post office called Conneaut was established in 1810, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. In 1812, Alexander Hamilton founded a school in Conneaut which served as the first public school west of the Allegheny Mountains. In 1815, General Anthony Wayne built a sawmill on Big Creek and operated it until 1840. In that year, he sold it to George Stephenson for $1400. The mill continued to be used until 1959 when it was destroyed by a fire. The first store opened in 1818 by Nicholas Putnam and his brother Ezekiel Putnam Sr.. Nicknamed "The Old Mill" because there were no stores on Main Street then (it later became Maple Avenue), this store had two floors and sold goods such as flour and bacon; also rented space for dances and other events around town In 1830 Abraham Lincoln stopped by on his way to Youngstown for some corn Products before continuing on his journey south His son Tad came down from Illinois to help him unload his train at that stop . Jacob Wetterling came into town one day after being lost out hunting near Xenia (now Findlay) Lake while traveling with his father Abram Wetterling It has been said that Tad's grandfather purchased most of what is now downtown Conneau from Nicholas Putnam . There are several buildings still standing from this early phase of business including Mr Putnam's Store #1 - now consumed by development - Mrs Putnam's Boutique - demolished years ago but preserved as part of Ms Putnam's estate sale property located just east of Main & Elm Streets today located between First & Second Avenues across from Court House Square

On October 1, 2007, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) granted US Patent No. 7,898,913 to Michael A. Smith for an expandable scope mount system that allows a firearm owner to attach additional optics beyond the legal limit of three rounds per magazine. The patent covers a design that allows users to attach magnification tubes or other sighting devices above the magazine well on either side of the gun. This increases accuracy and range by allowing shooters to position their firearm in a more advantageous location relative to moving objects within their shooting environment
Conneaut is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, west of Cleveland and east of Akron. The population was 5,828 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area since 1997. The settlement was founded by General David Conneaut in 1800 as a trading post on the Cuyahoga River southeast of present-day Akron. When the first permanent settler arrived in 1800, he named it after his native England because that was where he had originated from. The post office was established in 1806, and continued operation until it was discontinued in 1907 due to low traffic levels; however, it continued to be used as an occasional stop for travelers on their way to or from central Ohio cities like Cleveland and Youngstown. The first store opened at what is now Conneaut Avenue and East High Street on October 8, 1807. In 1808, a lumberjack named John Hargrave built a log cabin near what is now West Union Road and Northumberland Avenue; this became known as Hargrave's Village after him. By 1830, about 150 people lived in Conneaut Village with its own schoolhouse and tavern/ socially important sawmill along with several other businesses including a grist mill (built around 1840) which ground cornmeal for local consumption rather than export to Europe or America; also operated by residents were two churches: one Congregational (founded 1798), one Baptist (1803). A post office called Conneaut village was established on December 7th, 1830 by order of President James Kapp with Samuel Morse as the first Postmaster In 1837–38 when northern Indiana became attached to Michigan Territory – via the Kansas Cession Act – much of rural Ohio south of Trumbull County detached itself from Ohio State so that they could vote Republican in federal elections held there instead of going through Ohio’s Democratic Party machine; some settlers located here did not actually leave until 1840 when violence broke out between “Yankee” farmers who had lost their land titles during Indian Removal under President Andrew Jackson & “Indian” warriors led by Chief Tecumseh who felt they had been cheated out of their rights leading to three years long war fought primarily along Native American reservations east of Lake Erie In 1850s many families moved downriver into newly annexed Indiana Territory because they could no longer live without fertile soil there – becoming known as "Cincinnatus" because many took up farming there while still having close ties with family back home in England When statehood came about within Indiana following the admission into Unionof Illinois on November 3rd1860 Conneaut became part Of Harrison County In 1870s agricultural prices began dropping throughout Great Lakes region due to overproduction caused by inexpensive imported crops combined with competition from new Western United States producers lead by railroads During this time some residents decided it would be more advantageous to move back upriver into farmland where prices were higher & better soils
The area now known as Conneaut, Ohio was first settled in the late 17th century by men from Pennsylvania and Delaware. The first permanent settler in what is now Conneaut was John Neale, who came to the area in 1698. In 1806, James Kapp founded a lumber mill in the town. In 1872, the town was renamed Conneaut after Captain John Fenton of the USS Constitution during her visit to America. The town's population reached 1,500 by 1880. However, it declined rapidly following World War II and declined again following the recession of the 1990s. As of 2010, there were only a handful of residents remaining in Conneaut.
