Conneaut is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 54,822. The city was founded in 1811 by Nicholas Conneaut and was named for Conneaut's Creek which flows through it. It is located on the Miami River about 41 miles (66 km) south-southwest of Cleveland, one of three cities in Lucas County. The first settler in Conneaut were Nicholas Conneaut and his family who arrived from England in 1811. The Anthill still stands as part of Ottawa Township historical park today. After exploring some other areas withinLucas County., Boone returned home to found that much more land had been discovered east ofthe river so he started again westward this time proclaiming himself "Ender" or "The First American". He met General John Stark while mapping Indian Territory in 1796 while staying at Sandusky Bayou inn between Fort Pittsburgh and Sandusky Lake nearpresent day Geauga Heights Village.)
