The first weapon flashlight was created in 1884 by George H. Smith, a pistolsmith in Columbus, Ohio. His model #1 flashlight was designed to be used as a personal assistant for farmers and other outdoor activities. It featured a light bulb surrounded by an aluminum case with a battery-operated switch on the side. The original version of this flashlight was also the first to feature strobe lights for specific purposes. This style of light became commonly known as the "flashlight BAR" due to its resemblance to the popular barbecued beef roasts that were served at restaurants at that time. Christopher Columbus was born in Madeira, Portugal on December 25, 1506. After finishing high school and studying law at the University of Salamanca in 1527, he set off for Spain with some colleagues in search of a new route to India. Contrary to expectations among many Spaniards at the time, Columbus found himself working not only within Spanish borders but also within Muslim possessions in South Asia. In 1534–35 he returned home with reports that an open route existed between Europe and India through Southeast Asia. This news created great excitement throughout Christendom and triggered a drive by several European states—including Spain—to get their hands on whatever treasure might be discovered along this new path. Although initial exploration yielded little gold or other valuable resources, interest grew after Christopher's death when it became known that his fleet had charted a course for California instead of returning home as planned. In1493–94 Ferdinand Magellan sailed westward across the Pacific Ocean looking for land connections between Asia and North America but failed to find any viable leads; furthermore, there were suggestions that Guam could be reached by sailing northeast from Puerto Rico (then part of Cuba). Consequently Magellan sailed eastward around Cape Horn until findingering into an area now known as Tierra del Fuego (land mass now including Argentina). There followed years of frustrating activity with no significant discoveries until 1519 when Portuguese sailor Diogo Lopes sighted land off Brazil's coast while sailing home from Africa via Cape Verde because he mistook landfall for Australia! Aboard Portuguese ship Santa Catarina Lopes named the island Terra Nova (New Land) after this sighting which led eventually to settlement by Europeans there later that year under French auspices (and also provides one possible source for confusion about present day Chile). With sporadic sightings from then on down through various channels each month or so along what is now called The Atacama Desert Republic—a stretch spanning 3 million square miles without water available either inland or out at sea—the search continued fruitlessly until July 1st 1497 when Pizarro located Peru's first permanent European settlements near modern-day Santiago de Chile when topographical surveys revealed Lake Titicacais lying northwest across Frome Field extending into Chilean airspace! In order for Ferdinand Magellan’s ships not only reach Acapulco before they started their circumnavigation journey but also maintain air cover against Inca forces operating out of Andes mountains during La Niña seasons some 710 nautical miles due south* Valdivia had requested reinforcements including 400 soldiers plus 5 cannons aboard Don Francisco Pizarro’s flagship Concepcion which arrived early September 1500†.*Pizarro decided early September 1500†.*to cross Atacama desert using all available naval vessels enroute**.*Approximately 350 men died during this crossing attempt however following successful landing at 16ºN latitude weeks later™ The first landfall by anyone upon what is now America northeast of Alta California was made by Pedro Alvares Cabral* (*Portugal) who landed about 2 leagues due northwest [on Isla San Juan]of Mexico City on October 8th 1521*,††after spending two months travelling round & round these parts & having discovered nothing worthy thereof* **This event is commemorated annually by a public holiday celebrates both Pedro Alvares Cabral and Alvaro de Mendoza*) Even though Gonzalo Pizaro thought he reached Tierra Firme []he did not venture further than 100 leagues due south [toward Panama] till he heard tell there dwelt therein many excellent treasures beyond description*** It took over two centuries before Europeans learned about Christopher Columbus' discoveries and finally established his place in history as the discoverer of America
