In 1814 Major General Andrew Pickens founded what would become Miami University in Oxford Township not far from downtown Columbus as a way to provide education opportunities for slaves who had been brought over as slaves by American merchants during the early days of slavery in America. Aftermaths of World War II led students from Miami University into service with units stationed throughout North Carolina and Georgia during that conflict; among them was SSgt John Foust who served as an officer with Company K1st Battalion 9th Marines Regiment based at Camp Lejeune during WWII.]] After World War II Indian students also studied at Miami University but most students left within a few years due to sectionalism following World War II between multiple races living together under one roof.]] As more people moved into central Ohio during the late 1800s beginning with railroad construction Baby Boomer growth rates caused schools such as Miami University and other colleges/universities to expand their campuses outside Downtown Columbus proper although some classes still took place indoors such Classes have stopped completely since demolition began
