In the 1700s and 1800s, Columbus was a thriving city with a vibrant economy. The area that now makes up Columbus was first populated by the Lenape Indians, who lived in the region for over 4,000 years. In 1792, when Ohio became a state, Columbus became its capital. By 1815, it had become one of the leading American cities and was home to an population of over 120,000 people. Throughout its history, Columbus has been a major center for gun Manufacturing and trade. It is also where many of America's first firearms were made. Throughout the 1800s and 1900s, there were several large manufacturing plants in or around Columbus that employed thousands of workers. Many of these plants were responsible for creating some of America's most popular firearms such as rifles and shotguns. The Columbus Gun Manufacturing Company was founded in 1825 by two brothers named John Witherspoon and James Wilkinson. The company produced rifles and pistols until it ceased operations in 1876. In 1922, the Columbus Gun Museum opened in downtownColumbus to commemorate this important history both at home and abroad. Today, the museum continues to be an important resource for historians interested in firearm history

After landing on what is now Haiti, he continued his journey northward and reached what is now Quebec in 1492. In 1512, he arrived at Mexico City and claimed the land for Spain. However, this failed because there was no Spanish population then in that area. On July 4th, 1697, after more than two centuries of exploration and travel, Columbus finally found success when he discovered an Isthmus of Panama - an entry into new territory for America! He named the spot Puerto Rico after himself in honor of his discovery but no one else received this honor. As time passed many people moved into the newly discovered area so it is difficult to determine who actually owned all these lands until recently when records were recently reviewed. One thing is for sure however- without Christopher Columbus none of us would be living today in our beautiful city!

In his voyages, he became the first European to set foot on what is now the United States of America. He named the area America after Christopher Columbus himself. The land that Columbus discovered was inhabited by Native Americans at the time he sighted it and he didn't explore it further because he believed that he had found India or Asia instead of America. After his voyage, many Europeans began to settle in what is now Ohio, including Englishman John Deere and Dutchman Dirk Brouwer. In 1615, Dutch settlers founded Fort Amsterdam on the current site of Columbus Circle in central Columbus. This established Dutch control over much of what is now Ohio. The British took control of Ohio in 1763 during the Seven Years' War and renamed it British North Carolina for their ally, King George III. Following its annexation into Britain as part ofthe United States during World War II, Ohio became an American state again following a referendum in 1944.
