The Columbus area has been home to guns for over a hundred years. The first guns were made in the early 1800s and the firearms that we know today first appeared in the late 1800s. That year also saw (or so we thought)the end of World War 1 when Germany surrendered unconditionally at Neubrandenburg Field!!!!!!!!!!!!! So what happened between then & now??? We have our own version about how things may have ended if one looks closer: One can only imagine how different everything would have been if General George Washington did not die young at Mount Vernon during peacetime….. All kidding aside however…………………. backtracking a few years there we can say that following World War II Cleveland experienced rapid economic growth thanks largely due its proximity tO Steel production plants run by GM&A Steel Corporation (www2/gmcastlinsteel). Many small businesses mushroomed throughout downtown Cleveland while large companies either closed down or relocated because steel production became more expensive than ever before….. until recently anyway !!!!! But let’s get back tO history……….. On January 20 th 1959 residents organized themselves into groups called “Cleveland Citizens CommitteeAgainst Nuclear Testing” after witnessing nuclear tests take place nearby at Redstone Arsenal Naval Weapons Station(now Dynegy Inc.) These citizens were concerned about potential damage done tO local environment & adjoining neighborhoods should nuclear testing continue unabated !!!!! A public hearings were held on February 2 nd 1959 where eminent citizens including Presidents Eisenhower[4] & Kennedy[5] testified against further testing etcetera……………………………………… eventually leading tO passage w/o any objections from federal officials concerns surfacing again related tO plutonium release associated wO Test #239 blast at Oak Ridge National Laboratory !!!!!!
