When the first gun magazines were published in America, they were small and handwritten. The first printing press in America was not until 1795. There were no presses until the late 18th century because of the cost of materials. In 1795, as part of Treaty Five among Great Britain, France, Spain and Sweden following their war with America (1792-1801), commissioners were sent to survey all lands west of Fort Erie on which Canada lay including present day Ohio and Indiana. The first plat for the town was filed by Nicholas Mynyk on October 5th., 1795 with land at what is now First Street and High Street within current limits of Columbus

So while some members of his group were able to survive and make some valuable discoveries, most of them died inventure or due to disease. Ultimately, however, Columbus' efforts proved successful and AMERICA became an official part of Europe's empire after his death in 1506
