In 1851, Mr. Halsey decided to start selling binoculars through his business instead of through the mail because he believed that it would be more efficient for him to do so. He also decided to name his company The Ohio Binocular Company because he thought this would make it more distinguishable from other businesses that were selling binoculars at the time. The Ohio Binocular Company became successful and started selling binoculars all over America! In 1951, The Ohio Binocular Company changed its name to The George Washington University Corporation because it wanted to reflect the fact that their product was available at universities across America! In 1978, The George Washington University Corporation stopped manufacturingbinoculars and transitioned into a research company focused on developing new ways to use optics for education and industry! Today, The George Washington University Corporation is still active in providing innovative ways to use optics for education and industry!
