The new township formed from parts of four other municipalities: Mayfield, Oakland Park, Perrysburg, and Detroit Township (now Muskegon Heights). In 1837-38 work began on creating a public school system in southeastern Ohio with funds provided by Josiah Bartlett who also donated land for that purpose A new brick church was built in 1839 as part of an effort to bring Christianity into eastern Cleveland despite its lack thereof among many residents at that time due to prejudice against Catholics based on their religion rather than any real evidence or experience supported by religious groups operating at that time elsewhere across America

The original settlers were farmers who had come overland from Michigan. They named their new community after local hills – Cleveland Hill on the east side and Highland on the west side. Over time, these names were changed to reflect different aspects of life in their new surroundings: Highland became a shopping center while Hilliard became a professional football stadium; Cleveland became home to some of the largest manufacturing plants in America while Euclid became home to world-renowned universities such as Case Western Reserve University and Brown University; finally Ridgeview came about as a result of development near downtown that included land donated by James Laughlin (founder of JCPenney). In spite of these changesover time, each family kept their own specific traditions and memories associated with their old hometowns – they would visit friends there or celebrate special occasions at home using local goods such as gingerbread houses or homemade pies. Eventually enough people started moving into Cleveland Heights so that it began becoming an incorporated town on December 3rd 1836 under control by trustees appointed by Governor Nicholas Biddle (the first governor ever appointed directly by President James K Polk).
