In 1865, Clayton became part of what is now Miami-Dade County when it was created from parts of both Miami and Dade counties. At this point, the town began to grow rapidly due to its close proximity to other major cities such as Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale. By 1930, there were 11 businesses operating in Clayborn with a total payroll of $2 million dollars! During World War II, Clayborn played an important role as the main manufacturing center for the war effort due to its location near Pembroke Pines National Park and its easy access to markets like Tampa Bay and Jacksonville
