Clayton, Ohio is home to the world's second largest rifle range, and it has been for over a century. The original rifle range was built on land that is now the Clayton County Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds were first used in 1851 as a horse race track and later served as an agricultural market. In 1907, the Clayton County Agricultural Society moved to the fairgrounds and began using it as their ownRange. It wasn't until 1948 that they officially became known as the Clayton Rifle Range. The original rifle range was built on land that is now the Clayton County Fairgrounds. It opened its doors to shooters on October 17th of 1851. At that time, it was one of only two ranges in Ohio open to everyone who wished to use them. This made it very popular with local gun owners and shooters alike. Over time, additional ranges have been added to the countyFairgrounds, including a pistol range in 1951 and a shotgun range in 1990. Today, there are over 350 firearms enthusiasts who can shoot at the Clayton Rifle Range each day! This includes both recreational shooters who come out for some practice or competition (or just because they loveguns!) and commercial shooters who come out to test their equipment or sell their products at various events throughout the year. One of our favorite things about shooting here at the Clayton Rifle Range is all of our friendly neighbors! We getto see all kinds of people - from grandparents taking their grandchildren shooting ducks bythe water's edge right up until shifty-eyed kids trying new tricks with targets set up in different parts of campus - just like back when we started this place all those years ago! Clayton, Ohio is home to the world's first shotgun-fired air rifle range and the world's only air rifle/shotgun shooting championship. The first shotgun-fired air rifle range was opened in 1907 by A.C. Caldwell, a firearms dealer and member of the Clayton Township Board of Education.
Clayton is a small town in the state of Ohio, located on the southern border of the United States. The population was 9,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Mentor Metropolitan Statistical Area and is considered to be a bedroom community for Akron. The name "Clayton" was given to it by General Philip Sheridan in 1813 as an honor for Major General David Clayton's victory over Native Americans at Battle of Fallen Timbers. The town began as a small farming community with around 100 residents in 1824 whenzon Indians destroyed most of what remained of Fort Delaware in what is now Clayton Township. By 1830, there were only six families remaining in what would become Clayton. In 1836, landowner Colonel James Wilkinson donated 1,000 acres (400 ha) to the township to create an agricultural village known as Wilkinsonville which would be home to some 300 residents. The first school was built in 1840 and soon after became one of the largest schools west of Cincinnati. In 1851, violence erupted between local farmers and loggers who had discovered coal seams near present day Clayton; this led to the establishment of a military post nearby called Fort Delaware which functioned as an early warning system against Indian attacks until 1861 when it was abandoned due to lack of funds. In 1865, Union troops burned down much of Wilkinsonville during their invasion into Ohio during the Civil War; this event helped spur development within the town and make it more business-friendly towards entrepreneurs like Edwin Biddle Sr., who founded Biddle Piano Factory in 1865 and later became America's first successful manufacturerof electronic pianos On July 4th 1870, President Ulysses S Grant made Clayton national capital by decree providing that all offices within city limits should be moved from downtown Cleveland to Claymont along High Street This event also markswhen white settlement began encroaching upon black populated areas throughout much Ohio with Claymont becoming one such area

Clayton, Ohio is a community in the Sandusky County of Ohio, United States. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Toledo–Middletown, OH–PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 500 years. The first European to visit Clayton was Nicholas Hennepin in 1795 and he named it after trader George Clayton who had landed there in 1802. In 1806, General Anthony Wayne's army invaded Sandusky County and skirmished with the Shawnees near present-day Clayton. This event helped start what would become one of the most successful American westward expansion campaigns of all time In 1814, Union General James Kapp surrendered at Camp Schofield on Clinch River south of Lexington Heights in what is now Clay Township. Aftermath of that battle resulted in heavy losses on both sides and this opened up many opportunities for frontier traders and settlers to exploit the area. By 1820, Indian hostilities had decreased significantly so settlers began to arrive en masse astrapping game across the Ottawa River into Michigan Territory The town sprang up around a small log cabin built by Isreal Sargent on a hill overlooking Ottawa Creek about two miles north of present day downtown Clayton. Soon other settlers arrived including John Neely Bryan who laid out a larger town square along Ottawa Creek which became known as "Bryan Square". A post office was established at Claytown (later renamed Athens) on July 14, 1840 from land granted by Governor Asbury . In January 1861 when Ohio became a state an act passed by Congress providing for township organization within each congressional district increased the number of townships from twelve to twenty-one In 1865 Clifford Grosse founded Grosse Drug Co., one of America's earliest drugstores . On December 24th 1870 during its centennial anniversary Clifford Grosse donated $1 million to establish University Park Cemetery adjacent to his home which still stands today as one of Ohio's largest cemeteries On February 15th 1915 local resident Jens Rasmussen married Oleanna Moberg (née Knausgaard) at First Presbyterian Church located east side between Second Street NE and Third Street NE also known as Rasmussen Place today. They were followed 2 days later by their son Lars Rasmussen who married Eva Christensen opposite First Presbyterian Church where they lived until her death in 2006 . They are buried next to their parents beside many other pioneer families such as: Rasmussens siblings Anna Caroline (1846-1929), Ole Hansen (1849-1925), Peder Clausen (1853-1938), Andreas Christensen (1856-1930).
Clayton was founded in 1800 by Capt. John Clayton and his family. The area that is now Clayton was first inhabited by the Shawnee and other Native Americans. In 1812, Ohio Governor George Catlett authorized the construction of a road from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh. This road became known as the Great Western Highway. The first store in Clayton was established on this highway in 1814 by A.J. Downing and his brother-in-law, Samuel Hennepin. Clayton's economy changed significantly when the Erie Canal was completed in 1825. With access to this new resource, there was an increased demand for goods coming into town from out of town. In 1830, Captain John Clayton married Mary Price and they started a family which would grow to include 11 children over the next few years. The development of the canal allowed for more people to move into town andTownsman Cottonwood Place began to be built as a result of this growth. In 1840, James Fenton bought land north of town from Captains John Clayton and Samuel Hennepin for $200 per acre . Fenton developed this land into what is now called Fenton Hills Country Club . After purchasing this property, Fenton began building what is today known as Fallbrook Village which included a church, schoolhouse, tavern/grille, field house/golf club house and several other buildings
