Clayton, Ohio is an unincorporated community in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It lies along the Miami River east of Dayton. The first settler in Clayton was David Dixon in 1814. After Indian Removal in 1830, all of the small communities west of Dayton were disbanded and their residents moved to what is now Cincinnati or other large cities. None of these villages had a post office until 1840 when one was established at Clayton by John Daugherty. The first store in Clayton opened on Main Street in 1847 and it was the only business open during most of the 1840s because there wasn't much traffic on main street then. By 1850, there were four stores and a hotel located around town. In 1871, A H C Robertson built a single-story frame school house which served as county courthouse from 1870 to 1875 before it burned down. In 1861, Ohio statehood was granted to Ohio and Clayton became part of Ross Township within Columbiana County under the new state government. There were no annexation requests for Claytons until after 1903 when Ross Township's boundaries changed again making it ineligible for annexation so it became an unincorporated community once more with its own Post Office Department which still operates today (albeit using zip codes). In 1919-1920 eleven homes near where I-670 meets I-480 were destroyed byfire; this event contributed to increased development near I-670 over time thanks to two adjacent shopping malls opening nearby! Today, Clayton has a mix of small businesses and high end residences dating back to when people lived close together on Main Street without any formal buildings being erected until well into the 20th century! Clayton, Ohio is a small town located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 3,596 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids-based metro area and is the county seat of Muskegon County. When it was founded in 1836, Clayton was one of the largest towns in Michigan. However, by 1860 it had shrunk to its current size with only 1,500 residents. The first settler in Clayton were two brothers named John and George Miller who arrived on July 24, 1836 from Green Bay, Wisconsin. They established a farm on what is now State Road 9 south of town. The business they started grew quickly and they soon became masters of the industry that took off here: logging. In 1840, their brother Isaac acquired a tract of land west of town from Michael Hickey which included what is now US 12 and State Road 9A. This provided enough acreage for him to build his house and establish his lumber business which continued until about 1865 when he sold out to Jens Hansen who ran it until 1899 when it passed into ownership by Ransom Reynolds Jr.. In 1846 Nathan Bedford Forrest bought 4 lots totaling 21 acres near present-day 11th Street between Park Avenue and Maple Drive for $1 million dollars which served as nucleus for his new plantation called Forrest Grove (later renamed Arlington). He also built a small cabin there on this property where he lived until his death in 1909 at age 83 years old; although some reports suggest he actually died much earlier than that due to health problems caused by white settlers living around him rather than any natural causes or injury sustained by Forrest himself during life on the plantation). It wasn’t long before other entrepreneurs began investing in Claytons fledgling lumber industry too; among these early capitalists was Andrew Mellon who purchased 6 lots totaling 77 acres northwest of town from Jens Hansen for $10 million dollars just three years after Forrest had turned down an offer to buy 10 more acres from him (the latter being considered an insult given how close this area lay to Forrest’s mainsettlement). Over time other investors followed suit such as Harry Fenton whose familyowned Knoppers Lumber Company developed into one of America’s most important lumber companies through its acquisitions throughout Midwest region including many lands within Muskegon County itself – eventually becoming known as Live Oak Lumber Co., Incorporated.. Clayton prospered thanks largely to its location; situated midway between major logging cities like Detroit and Chicago along two major transportation routes – Rte 9A northbound passing through today’s downtown Clayton would bring Loggersdirect truckloads laden with logs directly into Muskegon County markets while traveling eastbound via Ulysses S Grant Boulevard linking Detroit with Cleveland – both making it easy for farmers all over southern Michiganto get their hands on whatever woody goodness was being produced hereabouts!
