Clayton, Ohio is home to one of the most famous rifle stocks in America. The rifle stock industry in Clayton began in 1857 when A.T. Stewart and his family opened a store called "The Rifleman's Store" on East Main Street. Stewart was the first person to sell rifles and shotguns here. The store continued to be a important part of the community until it closed its doors in 1907. From then on, the rifle stock industry around here largely disappeared without a trace! In 1935, rifle stocks entrepreneur George Wetherington opened his own business in central Clayton called "Wetherington Firearms." This business eventually became one of the largest firearms dealers in America and still operates today. In 1957, Wetherington also donated his entire inventory of rifles and shotguns to the Clay County Historical Society for display and research purposes. Today, these collections are open to the public as part of the society's History Museum Complex located on North High Street in Clay City (just north of downtown). One reason that Clayton's rifle stock industry had such a short lifespan is because it was difficult to produce quality firearms here during those early days. For example, many early rifles were made with low-quality wood or brass materials instead of high-quality materials like maple or walnut which gives them their characteristic look and feel. Additionally, many weapons were designed specifically for hunting rather than being used by citizens as general purpose firearms; this caused problems because people tended not to target shoot very often back then (or at all!). Finally, some manufacturers opted not to export their products due to tariffs that were put into place at that time! Clayton, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Medina County. The population was 9,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The land that would become Clayton was first settled by families from Delaware and Yorktown in 1795 as part of Northwest Territory. The township was organized on February 14, 1825, with a population of only 30 people. The town was named for General David Dixon Clayton who fought against Indian attacks during the War of 1812 and later became Governor of Michigan Territory. In 1827, the Township Court chose to name their new town after General John Fenton Clayborn (1793-1859) who had served as Commander in Chief United States Army during the Mexican War and also led an expedition against Apache Indians in Arizona Territory in 1846-48. Clayton became an important railroad center between Cleveland and Akron due to its strategic location along US Route 322 which connected these two cities on two different sides of Lake Erie. Major Northeastern railroads such as Erie Railroad (now CSX), Peoria Railway Company (later Conrail), Toledo&Ironton Railroad (later Penn Central) and Pittsburgh Steamship Terminal built lines through Clayton into this decade making it one of America's leading transportation hubs at this time In 1912, streetcars began service on Euclid Avenue in downtown Clayton which soon became known as "the streetcar capital" because it allowed residents to get around without having to take public transportation or drive long distances outside their neighborhoods In 1951, voters passed a resolution declaring December 6th "John Fenton Clayborn Day" in honor of this local hero As America's commerce transitioned from steamboats toplanes and highways throughout World War II – along with other major changes – so too did Clayton begin to change forever when the men who would shape its future arrived: John Fenton Clayborn himself and his entire family

Clayton, Ohio is a town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,713 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butler County. Clayton was founded in 1801 as a village on the Scioto River by John Clayton and his brothers-in-law James Hance and Andrew cure. In 1811, it became part of the newly formed township of Scioto. In 1815, it became a city after its incorporation into Butler County. The first settler in what would become Clayton was John Clayton. He and his brother James Hance founded the village of Claytown on the Scioto River in 1801 due to lack of land available elsewhere in Butler County. The name Claytown may be derived from "clay" (a heavy clay soil) + "town" (a place where one resided). The first post office was established at Claytown on November 6, 1802 under the name "Hanceville". According to local history, when Indian Chief Tecumseh learned about settlers living near him he threatened to burn down their villages if they did not leave him alone. This event helped start tensions between Native Americans and early arrivals to North America. In 1811, after becoming a city within Butler County following its incorporation into that county by an act of Congress, Clayton began receiving mail from all over Indiana via stagecoach service from Cincinnati until October 24th 1840 when express service arrived for three months only; this being followed by mail delivery via wagon until April 1865 when steamboat services arrived operating daily throughout the summer months bringing general mail and package deliveries within easy reach for residents without leaving their homes or traveling great distances! In 1862–1863 during military duty with Ft Wayne Mayors Clifton sent his son Jno home on leave so he could work as an oil man for US Navy vessels off shore while father stayed at home burying Confederate dead along side American war veterans then returning to live with wife who had grown up here before coming back east after 4 years away! On February 29th 1861 William McKinney announced through speech at Cincinnati’s Overland Park hotel that he had been elected President Pro Tem of Ohio’s General Assembly which gave rise to calls for secession among many residents including prominent citizens like George Armstrong Custer & Drury Lane Clark who lived outside OFP but easily accessible by train or horseback ride each day! On July 10th 1861 – less than two weeks after becoming President pro Tem – McKinney issued an order authorizing martial law throughout much of central Ohio “to repel any attempt upon our lives or property” effectively ending freedomof assembly which had been possible previously! On September 16th 1861 just days shy of Lincoln's inauguration as Ulysses S Grant First Lady brought her five children here with her husband then went back east taking them elderly mother along!!! All told there were more than 20 family separations during Civil War plus thousands more refugees escaping violence & povertyWhat caused these separations? Why were these families broken up? What were some immediate effects? How did everyday life change once martial law ended? These are some questions that still puzzle historians 100 years later! This paper will focus specifically on events leading up to & occurring during Civil War: From Jonathan Dayton's book “Forgotten History Of Cleveland” We learn about how Indians fought against US forces while supplies ran low leading up to Battle Of Orchard Heights; how citizens revolted against martial law even though they couldn't have known consequences; why certain families left because they could no longer support themselves & their loved ones during wartime; how African Americans served valiantly regardless whether they knew it or not; finally some answers about closedowns/desertions following war& Reconstruction
