In 1965, Colt Defense Systems was created as a separate division within NFC. It produced rifles and handguns under license from other firearm manufacturers such as Browning Arms Co., Winchester Repeating Arms Co., Savage Arms Corp., and Remington Arms Co.. Colt Defense Systems continued producing firearms into the 21st century. Today, Colt Defense Systems produces both assault rifles and pistols under license from other manufacturers.
