Clayton is a city in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 393 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton metropolitan area and is the center of the Greater Dayton Area. The first gun protection law in Clayton was passed in 1871 by Judge George H. Dixon. At that time, guns were not generally considered safe property and owners had to keep them locked up or secure them with means other than living inside their home. The law required firearms owners to present a license before bringing their firearms into town, obtain current safety/firearm training, and register their weapons with the local sheriff’s office. In 1875, Clayton became one of the original cities in Dayton Township when that township was created from parts of Muskingum and Fairfield counties. In 1907, Clayton became an incorporated village after being chosen as one of five townships proposed for creation within the new city limits. Clayton is a small town located in Union Township, Butler County, Ohio. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron-Canton, OH-Worthington, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1827 and named for General Joshua Clayton who fought in the War of 1812. The first post office was established in 1828. The community had a one-room schoolhouse until it was replaced by a public school in 1886. In 1907, the village of Clayton merged with nearby Worthington to form the present day Clayton Village entity. Clayton has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen "Csb") with mild year-round temperatures and short dry periods that are typically dominated by warmer months from May through September; during these months temperatures average around 26–29 degrees Celsius (79–83 degrees Fahrenheit). Monthly totals of 12 mm (0.48 inches) or less are common during most months and usually occur from November through February when there is an almost total lack of precipitation due to cold weather systems moving into the area from the northeast during wintertime. Between December and March there can be some sporadic showers but most days are hot enough for afternoon sips from water bottles on median streets or cars parked along sidewalks without fear of getting extremely wet inside those areas since rainstorms generally cessate within about two hours after their onset based off observations over time at high pressure ridges found near Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky border

One such incident occurred when a man named Adam Lanza bought a shotgun from a store in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14th 2013.
