A new school building was constructed on University Avenue between Main Street and High Street in 1837 which served as the nucleus of current-day Clayton Municipal Schools district until it merged with Warren Township government schools District 11 in 1984 to form Warren Township School District No 4A. In 1840, John Prentice began selling chickens at his house on First Street southeast of present day State Route 812; this became one of early commercial activities in Claytontown%.
