Clayton, Ohio is a town located in the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Ohio and is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 34,057 at the 2010 census. The first ammunition store in Clayton opened in 1892, and it continued to sell rounds until 1903 when it shut down due to prohibition. Ammunition production began again in 1914 when a new factory was built and production continued until 1948 when ammunition manufacturing stopped again because of World War II shortages. In 1949, a new factory was built that continues to produce ammo today. The first bullets were made from lead and iron filings which were shot into a vat of slag to create an alloy that could be fired off as projectiles. These projectiles would then be cast into lead or other materials before being used as artillery rounds or pistols ammunition. Ammunition production increased during World War I due to demand from America’s military allies such as Great Britain and Russia. By 1932, American munitions manufacturers had produced over 100 million rounds of ammunition!
