Circleville, Ohio is a small town located in the U.S. state of Ohio and is the county seat of Clark County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 7,817. The name "Circleville" originated from its location on a major path between Cincinnati and Dayton. The first settler in what is now Circleville was George Paulding, who built a cabin in 1820. A post office was established at Circleville in 1825, and by 1830 there were six families living there. In 1836, John Dickson founded the Dickson-McCormick Paper Manufacturing Company out of his home on Main Street. Dickson became president of McCormick & Co., which manufactured paper products until it merged with United States Steel Corporation in 1984. In 1871, Jethro Tull started playing music at an arena called "The Cotton Bottom". He played for three years before moving to Oakland Township where he set up his own theater company called The Golden Fleece Theatre Company which performed Shakespeare and other classical plays outdoors on a balmy summer night before an audience made up of farmers and their families.
