Circleville is a small town in the northwest corner of Ohio, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. Circleville is one of twelve townships in Mason County. The first settler in what is now Circleville was Abram Travers, who arrived on horseback in 1812. A post office called Traverse City was established in 1817, but was discontinued due to competition from nearby Georgetown. In 1827, two men by the name of Burt and Hanks organized a store and trading post at what is now known as Burt's Corner (now part of downtown Cincinnati). The town started out as a small community with about 15 residents. By 1830, there were about 50 people living hereabouts. In 1836, John Dickey moved to this area from Dayton and started an agricultural enterprise that would become one of the largest cotton plantations in Ohio.
