In the early 1800s, Circleville had a small population of about eighty people. The only means of self-defense for these people was to carry guns that were either homemade or scavenged from other citizens. By 1812, gun mags were being made in the town and circulation was increasing. In 1814, violence erupted between two factions over control of the town's magistrates office. A battle ensued and several residents were killed including one of Circleville's own deputies. This event marked the beginning of a long period of peace and stability in the community. The town prospered until 1828 when a group led by John Sibley started manufacturing firearms in nearby Medina County. This new industry caused significant traffic congestion on Route 66 which resulted in increased prices for goods exported to Ohio from Circleville. A major fire destroyed most of downtown Circleville in 1830; this event marks the end of an era for the town. However,circleville is still home to many businesses that continue to thrive today thanks to its location near major highways and easy access to resources.

Circleville is a small town in the southeastern corner of Ohio, United States. The population was 7,659 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1811 by General John Cranch and his family as a Unitarian settlement on the Scioto River near what is now Dayton. In 1830, Circleville became a part of Holmes County when that county was created from parts of Warren and Fayette counties. In 1837, it incorporated as a village under the name of Circleville. In 1850, Circleville joined with other villages in Holmes County to form the new Athens-Clarion County Union School District; this district served all of Athens-Clarion and most of Trumbull County east of Interstate 75. In 1961, Athens-Clarion County closed its schools within the union school district and merged into Greater Cincinnati's public school system; however,circleville retains its own school board until 2019 when that board amalgamated with that system's High School District #2 (HHSD2) to form one large entity called "Ohio Valley Local School District No. 214." After years of decline due largely to rising transportation costs and competition from larger towns outside the area, downtown Circleville began to rebound in recent decades as an arts & culture destination for central Ohioans looking for something different than their typical municipal government or shopping experience downtowns in larger cities like Cincinnati or Cleveland. The city has seen success hosting several major festivals each year such as Ohio Renaissance Festival (2017), Chautauqua Arts Festival (2018), Columbus Shakespeare Festival (2019), International Folk Art Fair (2018), Akron Arts Academy JazzFest(2018), etc., along with numerous smaller events throughout the year including MakerFaire (2018) which drew over 100 exhibitors from around central Ohio., Farmer's Market Open House Weekend(March 28th - 30th) which brings more than 60 local farmers together to sell their products outdoors each week during Springtime,, ArtPrize 2018 which saw over 20 artists from across central Ohio exhibit their work,, etcetera

Circleville is a town in Delaware County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,953 at the 2010 census. The town of Circleville was founded in 1814 by James Caldwell and others as a post office on the Scioto River. It was named for Colonel John Clevike, who had been colonel of militia during the War of 1812. The first school in Circleville was built in 1815. In 1837, the town became part of the new University Park district; it annexed the village of Harding in 1938. In 1945, Circleville merged with neighboring unincorporated community of Southgate to form a single city called "Circleville". In 1957, portions of Delaware and Ottawa counties were divided into two Addison Townshipships; these areas remained separate towns until 1990 when they became part of Circleville jointly with Southgate. As part of this merger,Circleville also took over most aspects of government services previously provided by both Addison Townshipships: streetlights, trash collection and parks and recreation services were all transferred to its city hall/manager's office from each township's respective governing body. On February 28th, 2006, Mayor Darnell Earley announced that he would be retiring effective June 30th after serving since October 2005; his successor would be Deputy Mayor Rick Kuykendall who had served since May 2007. On July 5th 2007 earley’s daughter Kathy Earley announced she will take over as mayor effective September 1st2007
