In 1897, Drury–Wilson/Lennon School opened as one of only 10 schools open to white children in Stark County and remains one of the most popular public schools today in Stark County Stark County became part of the United States when it was created from offensives against Indian Territory during the American Civil War Chillicothe became an incorporated village on January 1, 1902 following approval by an act of Congress entitled "An Act To Promote Municipal Affairs And To Incorporate The Town Of Chillicothe In Stark County" On November 3, 1907 Captain Chester Hance organically performed at First Presbyterian Church with his band "The Blue Notes", which still plays every few months today . Chillicothe is a town in Morrow County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,816 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1811 as part of the Northwest Territory. Chillicothe is the oldest continuously inhabited community in Ohio and one of its most significant settlements. In 1813, Chillicothe became the capital of the Northwest Territory. The settlement at Chillicothe grew up around a Methodist Episcopal church and academy which were built between 1796 and 1800 on land acquired by Jesse James from a group of Shawnee chiefs in what is now Union Township, Illinois. James used part of his ill-gotten gains to finance these projects and named the town after his friend Peter Stuyvesant (1753-1827). When the first schoolhouse building was erected in 1798, it served as both an academy for students from nearby towns as well as a religious center for Methodists who had migrated to Chillicothe from Pennsylvania and Virginia following religious reform efforts led by John Wesley. By 1811, more than two hundred people lived within sight of each other in what would become Chillicothe. The town's growth was due largely to natural resources such as coal, timber, brimstone oil (a kind of kerosene), salt water fishing ponds and soil that had been gifts from Native Americans who had abandoned their villages near Cincinnati because of epidemics caused by smallpox virus*. By 1830*, when surveyors began probing into Ohio's aboriginal lands east of the Allegheny Mountains* they found that many villages like those at present located along Lake Erie* had long since disappeared without leaving any descendants behind to tell their story or help preserve their culture†(* See also "Ohio's Unbroken History: A Guide to Counties left Out" by Rebecca A.
