Chillicothe is a small town in central Ohio, United States. The population was 10,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron-Canton, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. Chillicothe is located on the southern edge of the Mahoning Valley and has a rich agricultural history dating back to 1819 when it was founded as a trading post by farmers driven out of Frenchtown by Native Americans. The first town site in what would become Chillicothe was laid down in 1797 by General Anthony Wayne during his expedition against the Shawnee. The area now occupied by Chillicothe was under Frenchtown until 1800 when it became part of United States territory following the Treaty of Paris ending the American Revolutionary War. In 1801, George Washington purchased 5 square miles (11 km²) of land from Nicholas Ballingale for $2,000 cash. Today, that tract forms much of easternhalfofthe town's core downtown area and also contains some older homes and businesses dating to before 1800 which are still standing today including one built in 1824 for Judge James Woodbury who later served as U.S. Attorney general under President Andrew Jackson... In 1815, John Cranch established a ferry service across the Scioto River between Chillicothe and Delaware Township (now Delaware County). This provided transportation for goods transported overland from other parts of central Ohio to Cleveland or Cincinnati via this route... By 1830 only two dwellings were present in what is now downtown Chillicothe; both were erected by Nathan Bedford Forrest during his brief period as sheriff of Kent County after he had been elected county treasurer... By 1840 there were thirty-six residences within three blocks (or walking distance) of where we stand today; many more existed on either side of Rte 419 which connected Delaware with Youngstown and points eastward" In 1861 Ephraim Minkney organized a group called "The Optimists" in order to promote agriculture near Toledo so that local mills could be brought into production instead of being exported all around the country due to lack thereof... To finance their operations they pressed charges against members who failed to pay dues or produce bills Of Credit"... A mill proposed for Clay Road nearpresent day South Liverpool will have been one among several mills planned close to Chillicoothe but never built because investors did not want their money invested too far away from home" When Union soldiers burned down five buildings adjacent to Main Street NW in 1863 while occupying Warsaw Junction outside Dayton, activist David Sanger wrote an article about how this event helped stir feelings against war throughout the country leading up to America's Civil War One result was that many menfolk emigrated westward seeking opportunities while others chose not fight after watching loved ones killed or maimed fighting for sides other than their own

Chillicothe is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,191 at the 2010 census. Chillicothe is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The communities of North Charleston and South Charleston were founded in 1811 and 1812 respectively as posts on the Miami River opposite Chillicothe. Chilicothe was platted in 1836 by John Sibley and James Mclntyre. The first store in the town was built by Isaac Decker in 1840. In 1851, the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad reached Chillicothe from Cleveland via Proctor Township and encountered strong resistance from residents who wanted to keep their community separate from downtown Cleveland. In response to this resistance, railroad officials offered a bribe of $5,000 to any resident who would allow their town to become integrated into the city Limits area of Cleveland.
