Chillicothe is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,044 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The first European settlers in what is now Chillicothe were families from Hungary and Transylvania who arrived in 1788. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Scioto River. In 1811, they founded the village of Chillicothe on land that had been given to them by General John Cranch as part of his land purchase from the Shawnees. The village was renamed Chillicothe in 1847 after General George Washington's visit to that area. Chillicothe grew rapidly during the early 1800s due to its location at a crossroads and because it became an important stop on stagecoach routes between Cleveland and Cincinnati. By 1830, it had become an attractive place for farmers and their families to live and grow crops. Manufacturing began to take off in Chillicothe during this time, with several businesses opening up including a flour mill, cheese factory, sawmill, wagon manufacturing company, carriage factory and more. However, World War II interrupted these boom times and led to a decline in business activity overall; however, some local businesses have revived since then such as publishing company Frederick Loomis & Co., which still operates out of downtown Chillicothe today (Loomis also used to be one of the largest employers in town). In recent years there has been an effort underway to promote growth within town by creating new economic opportunities such as hiring outside entrepreneurs to start new businesses or developing new tourism initiatives which could bring additional revenue into town coffers; these efforts are starting to pay off with some small businesses expanding beyond their original boundaries while others appear poised for similar success down the road. Overall though it appears that growth has plateaued somewhat in terms of jobs available within town but there are many potential opportunities for improvement should those with interested take fliers around town or attend community events like pancake breakfast/lunchtime meetups held every other week throughout summer months!

Chillicothe, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Stark County. The population was 26,011 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Chillicothe were French traders and missionaries in 1701–02 under la Chaise-Dieu expedition led by Pierre de La Salle. In 1792, John Adams moved his family from Quincy, Massachusetts to this location after the American Revolutionary War. Adams founded a small post office in 1793 as "Chillicothe". In 1813, Athens College opened in Chillicothe as one of twelve colleges established by President James K. Polk in response to requests for educational opportunities for Native Americans in Missouri and Indiana Territory during the Era of American Expansion (1812-1827). In 1815, the Erie Canal was completed through central Stark County making it possible for farmers to sell their products directly to consumers east of Cleveland rather than waiting weeks or months for wagonloads of goods brought overland via eastern routes such as the Great Lakes Road and Erie Canal route. This new economic development stimulated growth within Chillicothe and its surroundings which reached its peak around 1830 with an estimated population of 25,000 residents; however this figure declined rapidly due largely to factors such as disease outbreaks following epidemics such as yellow fever that struck central Ohio intermittently throughout much of that decade During prohibition era (1912-1933), many businesses closed because it was illegal for citizens to purchase liquor without a license from local authorities; consequently, there was little social interaction between people located within Chillicothe village limits until World War II when many military personnel living near Chillicothe returned home with their families during wartime shortages due to lack of available munitions stores outside Ohio The popularity and vibrancy achieved by downtown business districts throughout Greater Cleveland during that time period has been cited as one reason why demand remains high today for properties located within walking distance or close by on various streets throughout downtowns across America's largest city including Cincinnati, Columbus OH., Springfield MA., Indianapolis IN., Youngstown OH., Pittsburgh PA., Detroit MI.. These days some notable landmarks located within easy reach include The Mayflower Café & Bakery & Grill - open since 1998 on Main Street just west of downtown - along with several art galleries/ museums (e.g.: The Green Art Gallery -opened in 2003 on Market Street north side), several high-end restaurants (e.g.: Five Guys Burgers & Fries - CEO’d since 1997; Joe’s Pizza - opened 1994 on East Side Highway just south side Of Downtown), two major amusement parks (Cleveland Park Zoo & Amusement Rides) and numerous smaller businesses including a hair salon/perfume store/cafeteria combo called "Lily's" which borders University Circle Shopping Center across Euclid Avenue from Northern Lights Casino Resort next door In recent years significant redevelopment efforts have taken place eastward into neighborhoods adjacent thereto while plans are ongoing for additional commercial development along I-675 known locally as "The Strip". Additionally new schools constructed or planned in recent years include: Chaminade High School annexation into Chillicothian Village Schools District #1 effective September 1st 2009; Harrison Elementary School annexation into Chaminade Township Schools District #1 effective December 1st 2009; Westlake Intermediate School annexation into Harrison Township Schools District #2 effective January 1st 2010; Northside Middle School annexation into Pepperwood Township Schools District #3 effective March 31st 2010 bringing total number school district boundaries up to 20 Since incorporation as a town charter municipality – originally dated November 3rd 1870 – services have been provided by Municipal Court Judge George Pinchbeck who also serves Mayor pro tempore position . Services currently offered includes fire protection ($5/$30 Annual Fee); building maintenance ($10 per event plus $50 monthly fee); watermain replacement/maintenance ($25 per project plus $100 annual fees); refuse collection ($25 per month plus $50 annually ); trash Removal Service ($) . Taxes assessed against residents range from 2% (.35 mills) on Assessment Vouchers issued beginning Sunday June 15th 2006 through October 15th 2012 inclusive through 3% (.65 mills) on all assessments collected thereafter Effective November 2nd 2009 property tax rates will increase 5%. As annexed areas gain more populated populations taxes will continue rising until announced lowered rates become permanent upon annexation .
