Centerville, Ohio is home to the oldest gun magazine in the United States. The Centerville Gun Club was founded on May 15, 1868 by three gunsmiths from Cincinnati. The club served as a meeting place for local farmers and shooters. In 1875, the Centerville Gun Club moved to its present location on High Street. It was here that the first issue of "The Rifleman" was published. From 1886-1920, "The Rifleman" was published weekly. In 1919, Centerville became a city and the Gun Society ceased publication. However, residents continued to use "The Rifleman" as their local paper of record until 1959 when it merged with the neighboring Unity Newspaper Company (the predecessor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer). From 1959-1978, "The Rifleman" was printed fortnightly while also publishing an advertising supplement called "Gun World". In 1978 it merged with another gun magazine publisher called Sportsman Publications which also published an advertising supplement called "Operation Match". In 1984, both publications were combined into one magazine under the name “Riflemen” and continue to be published today under that name. Today's Centerville Gun Club is one of only a few remaining organizations in America devoted exclusively to shooting sports and history buffs who love firearms dating back to 1868. Located just blocks from downtown Centerville on High Street where rifle matches have been held since 1865 and where pistols were first taken up seriously in 1880s, this venerable organization meets Tuesdays at 6pm; Saturdays 9am-noon; Sundays 1pm-4pm inside or outside on Green Valley Road adjacent to St Gregory’s Episcopal Church

In 1903, Centerville was founded by citizens of nearby Warren and Boardman who were looking for a location for their new village. The first post office in Centerville opened in 1904. Centerville became an incorporated municipality on May 25, 1907. As one of its first actions, the municipality established a school system which included a high school and three elementary schools. By 1912, Centerville had developed into a busy commercial and agricultural center with several stores and businesses including two banks and four restaurants. The centennial celebration of Centerville's incorporation occurred on October 12-15 that year and featured speeches by Mayor John Aiken and First Selectman Averill Hinchcliffe Jr.. The town has undergone many changes over the years including becoming an annexed community of Youngstown on April 1, 1922; switching to a suburban form following World War II; becoming farmland after being built up as an industrial center; experiencing growth during the late 1990s when various manufacturing companies vacated their plants in neighboring towns for economic reasons; decline since 2000 as more residents moved away to larger cities or out of state (most recently due to outsourcing from China); recent redevelopment which includes plans for a new library/mall/residential complex; increasing number of residents commuting within the town via public transportation; significant investment from private developers which has led to increased retail space within Centerville as well as new construction such as residences and businesses along High Street between downtown Centerville Boulevard and State Route 522

In 1978, Congress passed the Gun Control Act which amended several Federal Criminal Code Sections regarding firearms possession and ownership including sections 823(a)(3) & (4), 825(a), 827(a), 829(c) & (d). These amendments created new regulations concerning magazine capacity, both semiautomatic weapons with 15 rounds or less per magazine as well as pistols with ten rounds or less per magazine - effectively banning most standard-capacity magazines manufactured before 1984 from sale within the United States except for antique firearms purposes only.

In 1847, both the US and UK were using muzzle-loading muskets. In 1857, the British replaced their muzzle-loading muskets with breech loading rifles. The US also made a change in1857 to a percussion cap gun called an "Old Kent Rifle."

Centerville is located in the Athens County, Ohio, region of the United States. Centerville was founded in 1824 by members of the Methodist Episcopal Church and named for David Centerville, a member of that denomination. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location on the Via Rail line and its role as an agricultural center. However, during World War II the town suffered extensive damage from bombing raids and subsequent firebombing. Today, Centerville is a small community with few residents remaining since most locals have moved away since then.
