Centerville is located in the Walnut Hills Township of Butler County, Ohio. The township was organized on November 3, 1836, from parts of Medina and Union Township. The population of Centerville was 498 at the 2010 census. Centerville is one of the oldest areas in Butler County. It was founded by English settlers in 1795 as a small community called Springboro. In 1836, Centerville incorporated as a town under the name Springboro Heights. By 1840, it had grown to include present-day Centerville and parts of unincorporated communities east of Dayton Road. In 1851, when Butler County was created, Springboro Heights became part of that county. The first guns used in America were cannons made by British colonists in North Carolina during the Revolutionary War. American armsmiths fashioned firearms based on these weapons during the early 1800s. One such weapon was a rifle known as the Patriot or George Washington Rifle which fired shot weighing about 6 pounds (2 kilograms). These rifles were built usingahonnaged wood stocks with either octagon or star shaped triggers and barrels measuring about 36 inches (91 centimeters) long

Centerville, Ohio is a small town located in the southwestern corner of Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Centerville is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. It lies on Erie Road and Main Street and is surrounded by forested hills to its northwest and southeast. The land that now makes up Centerville was first settled in 1810 by British colonists who arrived on the then-new river route from Buffalo, New York. By 1830, Centerville had grown to include a courthouse and several residences. In 1836, Centerville became an incorporated village under the name of "Norwalk." In 1868, it changed its name to "Centerville" after residents voted to become one municipality with a single governing body composed of aldermen, trustees, and city officials. The current mayor is Rich DeAngelo (D). In 1916, construction began on what would become Centerville's first post office building; this structure was completed in 1918 and served as the town's main civic center until it burned down in 1984. A new post office building was built in 1951; this structure served as the town's library until it burned down in 2006. In 1966, Centerville voters passed a resolution calling for the creation of a park system within the community which eventually resulted in the creation of White Oak Park adjacent to Centerville High School. Since 2000, much effort has been made to revitalize downtown Centerville through various marketing campaigns including "Downtowncenterville," "ClevelandTakeover," "ForgottenCityCenterville," "FestivalCenterville," and "Brews & Bites."

On July 3, 1801, Centerville was founded by General David Humphreys and his family. The town was named after Humphreys' home in Scotland and the surrounding land. The first post office in Centerville was established on November 5, 1802. The first store opened in 1803. On October 20, 1814, Centerville became a city under the laws of Ohio. In 1830, John Cranch built the first mill in Centerville and it remains one of the city's most popular tourist attractions today.
