Celina, Ohio is a small town in the southern part of the United States. The population was 1,802 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Celina–Muncie–Weldon, OH Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1828 and named for General George Washington Celina. The first post office in Celina opened in 1830. In 1835, a railroad station was built and named after President Andrew Johnson. A cotton gin was built in 1836 and a gristmill in 1840. The first school district in Celina opened in 1848; it included parts of present-day Celina, Muncie, Weldon, Delaware Township and much of unincorporated Ross County. In 1870, CelINA had two newspapers: "The Dispatch" (founded 1865) and "The Gazetteer" (1872). By 1880 there were six papers: "The Dispatch", "Gazetteer", "Dispatch & Gazetteer Weekly", "Dispatch Monthly", "Gazetteer Monthly" and "Daily Journal". A post office called Whitehall was established here on July 10, 1881; it served until November 3rd, 1896 when it became an official post office within the new school district which also included Muncie proper. On October 15th 1886 local citizens erected a Monument to honor their fallen county sheriff John Purdy who had died three days earlier from natural causes while engaged with law enforcement duties near Greencastle Indiana during what would turn out to be a very violent civil disturbance known as “the Red Scare” that took place across America due largely to social unrest caused by agricultural failures brought on by overproduction within Europe during this time period known as The Gilded Age’s most dramatic economic transformation since the American Revolution because technological advances such as horsepower power had made possible mass production at scale instead of artisanal manufacturing which relied upon hand tooling). A second monument honoring Purdy has been placed just east of his original location on Route 66 between Whitehall and Mount Carmel Indiana as well as inside Blue Water Catholic Church located off I-465 north of Cincinnati Kentucky just south of Lebanon Road northeast of Whitehall Michigan

The Grants are buried at the old Mount Zion Cemetery in Celina.
