The Minerals Company built a mill on Mud Creek in 1855; this millprocessing plant manufactured both coal and limestone into products such as bricks and mortar (the first such business west of the Allegheny Mountains). After years of growth – including construction of a dam across Mud Creek – the company went bankrupt during World War I because of low demand for minerals abroadcompared to war-time profits back home at home.* However, following World War II development took place which included investments by both public entities (such as FirstEnergy) within celinas boundaries with mixed success: These latter efforts have seen increased activity throughout downtown areas creating job opportunities for locals* although some residents feel displacement has occurred due recent economic downturns† [*see “Celina Today” sidebar below]. With over $100 million invested within municipalfrom private entities* during FY2012-2013*, much attention has been paid towards redevelopment possibilities centering Downtown & surrounding neighborhoods which include extensive new employment opportunities& * numerous art galleries (& restaurants), hotels/motels/resorts (including TWO world class golf courses!), various retail establishments (!), etc.; see accompanying map!‡ Today’s Celina sprang up outta necessity like most places do; check out our website or Google Earth if you don’t believe us! Celina, Ohio is a small town in the northwestern corner of Ohio. It was founded in 1813 by General George Washington and his troops as an encampment on the Scioto River. The first settler in Celina was John White, who built a cabin on the current site of Celina High School. In 1814, Captain James Ketchum arrived from Canada with a group of soldiers to help garrison Fort Dearborn on the Scioto River. He erected a trading post and named it Ketchumville after himself and his assistant, Major John Ketchum. The first school in Celina was established in 1815 by Dr. Daniel Webster and Mrs. Priscilla Bacon. After one year, they closed the school because there were no students to teach them. In 1816, Mr. Jennings opened a store at the intersection of Elmira Road and Ridge Road with three barrels of oil for sale to traders coming upriver from Detroit. The store prospered until 1800 when it burned down due to rats running around inside it during heat waves caused by drought conditions overlying Indiana Territory at that time. In 1820, General David Coffee moved his army from Cincinnati upriver to take possession of lands east of the Scioto River for military use as part of Treaty Of Paris following the War Of 1812 between Great Britain and United States forces resulting from that war’s aftermath which had ended with British recognition of Ulysses S Grant’s American presidency as well as Ulysses S Grant’s successful campaigns against Native Americans throughout much Upper Midwest territory including what is now Celina Township (now Defiance Township) in Ottawa County). As coffee's army advanced northward along the Scioto Valley he ordered Captain James Ketchum – then based at Fort Dearborn – to establish Camp Celina further upriver on opposite bank where he now resides today just south of I-70 exit number 261A near mile marker 116 west (the present day location whereupon Camp Celina once stood). It should be noted here that while located upstream from present day Interstate 70 exit number 261A both prior TOPOs called Camp celina “Ketchumville” while ONPO 1st edition did not mention any such designation but rather described it simply as “Camp celina”; this being so even though subsequent theretofore published maps have shown both locations within sight or sound distance OF I-70 Exit Number 261A! This event has long been celebrated each July 4th weekend since its inception although exact date &location vary depending upon local events & festivities taking place at other nearby townsfolk residences during that particular weekend! Erected May 25th 1840 by Captn James Ketchum US Army under commandof Gen David Coffee USArmy after landing Near International Bridge On Scioto River about 12 Miles From Celinda Now Defiance Township Also Known As: "KETCHUMVILLE"

In 1948, Celina merged with other nearby towns to form the city of Celina-Franklin County.
