The town was founded in 1818 by John Celina and his wife Maria. John had been born in 1792 in a small village near present-day Celina and died there in 1847. His wife Maria was born in 1796 and died on January 2, 1865. They were both natives of what is now Hungary. The first settler to arrive in Celina was Nicholas Healey who arrived around 1800. He built a log cabin on the east side of the river where he raised corn and potatoes until 1840 when he moved to northwest Ohio as part of the Great Migration of American farmers looking for land that could support horses and wagons. Many other early settlers also came to Celina during this time including: George Kistemaker, Nicholas Fenton, Adam Weiser, Johann Gottlieb Ziegler (or Zeitlin), Matthias Lapp (or Laupp), Jens Rasmussen (or Rasmussen), Michael Smedley (or Skidmore) and William Hays from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania – all men who went off to found their own villages or towns across America’s western frontier. One notable event that took place during the early years of Celina’s history was its incorporation as a borough on November 3rd, 1868 by vote of residents over the objections of nearby Dayton because they felt it would be less commercialized than their larger neighbor whose boundaries stretched along Third Street eastward into Bucyrus Township (later renamed Union Township). At first glance it may have appeared as if CelINA lacked any real importance outside of its bragging rights as a “Borough On The River” but within only three decades its industrial base had more than doubled withthe establishment of two cotton mills – one built byJohn Auerbach andoperated by his son Jacob Auerbach Jr., while another later erected by James McNaught & Son ran for many years under various names including Washington Mills before finally being closed down due to high water levels which destroyed most all evidence associated with it including records from prior owners Towards the end of World War Iervice troops were quartered here while training at Camp White Sands north-west of town beginning on October 15th 1918 ended September 30th 1919 when camp operations were transferred back to Fort Sheridan near Chicago Illinois .On December 8th 1919 citizens voted 5-to-1 against annexation into Dayton Maximum Wages Act 1926 Asa result celinas annexation request status changed from Borough To Municipality On February 14th 1929 when Mayor Wm Ralston appointed Warren Bendix Commissioner Of Works
