Celina, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio that was founded in 1837 by Nicholas Celina and his wife, Anna. The population was 5,358 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Middletown, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is named after Celina County in Italy which then became part of Hungary when that country gained its independence from Austria-Hungary on November 1, 1918. When Hungary became an independent country again on December 8th 1919 (the day before World War I ended), all Italian citizens were required to leave Hungary as per ceded territory during World War I and they were unable to return until 1920 under a new treaty between Hungary and Austria-Hungary. As a result of this event, most of the Italians who had lived in Celina for years either left or were forced to flee for their lives as Hungarians took over their homes and businesses. Nicholas Celina settled in what is now Celina about 20 miles west of Akron in 1837 with his family after arriving from Italy with only $2 U$S to his name and started a small farmstead with four cows and one pig he got from trading goods he bought along the way cheese, eggs, flour etc back home with friends/family he met along the way Anna celina married Nicholas celINA while they both still living at home 4 children later moved out east side buying land 3 miles NW of town center & started raising chickens & pigs on it also raised corn ground out into meal for livestock & some hogs too eventually decided to build “new” house not usingLogs/Timber but stone foundations bastion style roofed Gabled Side Elevated 2 stories +1 story basement lots around it grew 400 acres total planted fruit trees 6 kinds beans vines grapes pears apples figs olives turkey turkeys drove 10 bushels per acre main crop turned into cash crops soon realized there was much more we could do here so started buying land west side built 3 more houses additions since then including modern kitchen 3 baths one large addition 40 acres today

The town's name derived from Latin for "place where I am going," meaning that it would be a great place to findetus trees (trees with strong branches that can stand up straight) because they were all found there. In 1847, Columbus became the seat of government for both Miami-Dade County and Celina, and construction began on what is now the city hall building. The first city council meeting was held on October 12, 1847. On March 1, 1853, Celina became an independent city and adopted its own mayor and City Council. On November 12, 1865, after Hurricane Andrew destroyed most of Ft Lauderdale in county-wide damage,[1] Celina voted to become an official hurricane victim town.[2] The first post office in Celina opened on December 3rd 1840 mail service between Cincinnati and Sturgis arrived here December 21st 1840
Celina was founded in 1825 by John Celina and his family. The town originally lay on the east bank of the Cuyahoga River, but in 1830 it moved to its present location on the west bank. Celina became a village in 1850, and a city in 1907.
