Celina is a small town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima-Stark County Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began as a post office on April 15, 1836, and became a town on December 12, 1851. On November 14, 1907, Celina became the first city in Stark County when it seceded from Lima to form its own government. The city's charter was amended on November 5th of that year to allow for annexation by Lima. As of the 2010 census there were 3,711 residents in the city limits and 2,898 residents in the unincorporated areas around it. Celina is located at (40.915644,-81.566667). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2000,[2] there were 2,904 people,[3] 1123 households[4] and 721 families residing in the town.[5] The population density was 419 people per square mile (158/km²). There were 1,241 housing units at an average density of 191 per square mile (72/km²).[6] The racial makeup of the town was 96% White,[4][7][8] 0% African American,[9][10] 0% Native American,[11][12][13] 0% Asian,[14][15], and 2% from two or more races.[16][17]. Celina, Ohio is located in the U.S. state of Ohio and has a population of over 36,000 as of 2018. The town was founded in 1827 by John Celina and his wife Anna Maria, who named it for their daughter Celina. The first store in Celina was built on what is now State Route 30. In 1839, the town incorporated and its first mayor was Luke Appling. The town experienced a boom during the 1850s with the construction of railroads connecting Cincinnati and Cleveland to Celina. However, by 1860, celina had only a few businesses and 10 residents. After Ohio ratified the United States Constitution in 1788, celina's economy plummeted as large numbers of Native Americans moved into the area from southwestern Ontario to take advantage of new land opportunities Here they established villages such as Miami or Xenia. In 1865, when Ohio became a state, celinas' fortunes changed when General David Crocker purchased 5 thousand acres (20 km²) east of town along State Route 30 for $10 per acre (4 ha). Crocker donated this land to the community for use as an agricultural township with roads and schools; Eventually he sold most of these assets back to the government for $100 per acre (40 ha). By 1870-71, following investments by various businessmen including Judge James Sweeny Sr., celinas had Several stores & 3 schools (& post office1889), two churches (Methodist & Presbyterian), 2 cotton ginners (& sawmill1893), 1 flour mill (& gristmill1901), 1 cheese factory (& butter production 1901-1905) & one lumberyard (=shipping dock 1897). This period also saw significant growth in industry including brick making 1902-5; machine shops 1903-5; foundry 1911-14; shipbuilding 1916-21; aftermarket dealership 1923-. The years following World War I were difficult for Dayton because much manufacturing shifted from America to Europe due to wartime shortages. However, until 1925 when Prohibition began affecting alcohol production throughout America many small businesses continued doing business thanks largely to organized crime that controlled smuggling routes across international borders unhampered by prohibitionism After World War II there were several waves of migration taking place within Appalachians which led Celinas population up again reaching 509 in 1960 Additionally many young professionals moving out west followed through technology changes such as television networks being founded here then later California becoming available . As more people came into contact with Toledo’sPEOPLE HISTORY CENTER they realized that not all similar stories happened just outside OF CELINA
