The Celina community was founded in 1833 by John and Anna Celina. The town was named for Anna's maternal grandfather, Nicholas Celina. In 1836, the Celinas donated land to the city of Cleveland for a public square. By 1850, the population of Celina had grown to over 900 people. In 1859, President James Buchanan delivered a speech in honor of the town's history and culture in which he lauded "the sterling example of Mrs. Anna Celina and her husband." In 1865, Ohio Governor Richard M. Johnson declared that all citizens were welcome in Celina and it began to grow as a fashionable agricultural center with an ample amount of slave labor. After emancipation came during the American Civil War, many eastern men moved into Celina looking for work on farms while others became merchants and professionals. The town continued to grow until World War II when it shrank due to wartime economic restrictions on agriculture in central Ohio. Today, though its namesake has passed away, celina is still home to a vibrant community that celebrates its cultural heritage every year with events such as art exhibitions, music festivals, and Taste of Cleveland events
Celina is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, and the county seat of Celina Township. The population was 27,721 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Youngstown–Warren metropolitan area. The town of Celina was founded in 1827 by farmers from Westmoreland County and became an incorporated village in 1837. The township was organized in 1847, and the city was formed in 1896 when it merged with neighboring townships. In 2000, celinas annexation by Cleveland caused its population to swell to over 50,000 residents; as of 2010 it had increased to 57,819 residents. Celina is located on the southern edge of Lucas County at (41°05′12″N 93°24′36″W). It occupies land that once formed part of Bethlehem Township and also lies within Scioto Township on the eastern border of Euclid Township on the west side of Cleveland proper. To its northeast lie Mentor and Strongsville; to itssouthwest are Lake Erie and Parma Heights; to its northwest are Garfield Heights andproximity to Akron limits its exposure to natural resources but does not have any major industry or commercial centers except for a few small businesses which provide services such as manufacturing goods for local markets or providing transportation links between Celina/Akron and other parts of Northeast Ohio

Celina, Ohio is a town in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,913 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1824 and named for Celina, Italy. The first settler in Celina was John Sheehan. He and his wife Hannah built a log cabin on the east side of the river in 1825. In 1830, David McDonald moved to Celina from Mercersburg and began farming land on what is now the eastern border of the town. In 1833, John Law established himself as a landowner in Celina with help from Abraham Lincoln. Law operated a gristmill on the west side of the river until 1840 when he sold it to Wm Burchill. In 1837–38, Vincenzo Guerra surveyed and platted much of current-day Celina using his topographical map method which later became known as Guerra surveying methods. After completing his survey, Guerra went into business selling goods produced by his land holdings including flour milling products and wagon parts used by farmers throughout central Ohio In 1865 Virgil Lodge established himself as an attorney in Celina with assistance from Jno Hines who had just arrived from Cincinnati looking for farmland to purchase near Dayton airport Lodge partnered with George Custer who helped finance some of Lodge's early real estate ventures In 1886 James Fenton purchased 2/3 interest in Lodge & Co., Merchants National Bank & Trust Company of Cleveland from Joseph Pemberton .Fenton served as President of First National Bank (now Fifth Third bank) until its merger with Citizens National Bank (later Wells Fargo) that same year After serving as President of First National Bank (now Fifth Third bank), James Fenton retired to live at 925 Highland Avenue where he continued to operate The James Fenton Shop until his death on October 10th 2003

Grant took over the command of the Union army and soon began to march on Richmond, Virginia. On April 14, 1865, Grant's army reached Petersburg and arrived too late to save the city from capture by Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
