Celina, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Celina County. The population was 17,451 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Columbus metropolitan area, just east of I-71 and I-675. The first Europeans to visit Celina were French missionaries in 1692. In 1801, John Kennedy died while exploring the area around Celina Lake in what is now southern Lucas County; his body was never found and remains a mystery to this day. George Washington met with Indians here in 1795 when he was dispatched as commander of American forces during the Northwest Indian War. In 1861, Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated as President of America and chose Celina as his headquarters for two weeks while he traveled through central Ohio on his inaugural trip across America. On July 10th 1863 Union General Ebenezer Harlan attacked Confederate General David Teague's brigade under Colonel John Brown at Crossroads Hill outside town, resulting in three dead Harlan and nine wounded Brown, who continued fighting until killed by Union troops after leading an uprising against their superior force moments later; this event became known as "Bloody Sunday". The Battle of Perryville also took place nearby that day but resulted in no losses on either side despite more than seventy thousand casualties on both sides according to contemporary reports In 1868, Cincinnati businessman Nicholas Long established a sawmill here which became one of the largest employers in town (Long operated it until 1954). Other early businesses included a store founded by Mr. Raymond Cody & Bros., gristmills started by Aiken & Hargrave Brothers (the family still operates a mill there), two hotels/motels (one burned down in 1916) and a post office built by Jethro Stutzman (1880–1958). For many years celinaschools were run out of homes along Main Street - until 1978 when OSHA made it illegal for schools to use any buildings without first obtaining an Occupational Safety and Health Administration permit from town hall! In 1957 they started using Preble Hall which still stands today! Although Shorty's Moving Company closed its doors back then most everything else did too over time... The core group that kept things going for so long included Mrs.(now Ms.) Lorraine Skelton (& her husband); Mr./Mrs.(now Mrs.) Rich Beasley; Chuck Dixon (& his wife Tina); Dennis Rader (& his wife Lori); Jeff Kappler (&his wife Connie)... It all came to an end though when Jeff passed away suddenly from cancer aged 46 last year just before Christmas... When you think about all those people who have contributed something important or special to celinaspace over these past few decades it makes you feel very grateful indeed!

Celina was founded in 1796 by George Washington and his wife, Martha. The town was named after a small stream that ran through it. The first settler in Celina was John Simons. In 1806, the town had a population of seventy-two people. By 1814, the population had grown to ninety-six people and by 1830, Celina had a population of one hundred fifty-eight people. The first store in Celina was built on the corner of Third and Market Streets in 1826. By 1830, there were five stores in Celina. One of the stores, owned by Caleb Gibbs, became known as the "Gibbs Store." In 1839, William Bendix bought the Gibbs Store and changed its name to the "Bendix Store." In 1862, Jno Denny bought the Bendix Store and renamed it the "Denny Store." Between 1870 and 1880, nine more stores were added to Celina: four owned by Ezra Richardson (the "Richardsons' Stores"), two run by Thos. Larkin (the "Larkin's Stores"), and oneowned by Wiley Matson (the "Matson's Stores"). In 1896, celinawomen won their right to vote via referendum from residents of other towns which annexed into Cleveland limits during that year’s annexation process On November 3rd 1897 at 4 p.m., citizens of Cleveland voted on whether or not they should annex into what is today called Celina Township – with an overwhelming majority voting YES! This event marked a significant milestone for celinas women who would gain full suffrage within their municipality only four years later on November 3rd 1902 when all nineteen municipalities within Cleveland gained this right via referendum
Celina was first settled in 1796 by John and Anna White. They were the first Europeans to land in what is now Celina Township, Ohio. The area that became Celina was part of the Shawnee Nation until they ceded it to the United States in 1813. In 1836, Celina Township was organized from parts of Defiance Township.
