By 1870, however, most of the annexation had occurred within Medina Township and so Cambridge reverted back to its original name with only a small section remaining as part of Medina Township proper until 1940 when it again became separate from that township and formed its own municipality. In 1990s-2000s an effort was made to make peace between residents inside and outside of Cambridge for various reasons including issues with zoning changes that impacted property values within both municipalities while also affecting Concordia University (thetown's largest employer) which situated itself just east of downtown on State Street; this has led to some tension between residents inside and outside Cameron but ultimately no major incidents have occurred since then. Cambridge, Ohio is a small town in the heart of the Buckeye State. The community was founded in 1854 by one of the first settlers in what would become Ohio. The history of Cambridge starts with one man - Cyrus Goodrich - who arrived on horseback in 1854 looking for land to purchase. Goodrich's initial efforts were unsuccessful, so he turned to his friend and business partner James Fenton for help finding a location for his newtown. On July 1, 1855, Fenton submitted an application for incorporation with the name "Goodrichstown." The name was changed to Cambridge after Goodrich met with success in negotiating a league agreement with several other communities within the Cincinnati area. Citizens of Cambridge quickly formed a social clique which developed into what is now known as the "Cambridge Set." They avidly participated in local sports leagues and hosted weekly dinners at their home which served as social occasions where they discussed topics such as politics and religion among themselves. Members also helped support local charities through donations orwxnd volunteered at various organizations including churches, libraries, hospitals and schools throughout Hamilton Township (later Bedford County). One highlight from this period was when Harvard University invited members of the Cambridge Setto visit them during their winter term in 1860-61! Some notable alumni include President Abraham Lincoln (1841-1865), Congressman Thaddeus Stevens (1793-1874)and General Ulysses S Grant (1823-1909). Although life outside of town may have taken precedence during these years, there can be no doubt that all residents contributed towards making it what it is today – an active community that enjoys close cooperation with neighboring municipalities across Hamilton Township., Bedford County and beyond

The mercantile community grew rapidly following the discovery of gold in 1825, and by 1830 Cambridge had a population of over 500 people. In 1836 Cambridge became the seat of government for Clarke County, Illinois, and later for Scioto County. In 1859 the town was renamed to honor Ulysses S. Grant, an American general who served as president from 1877 to 1886.
