In 1915–16 there were riots between black students at Kent State University and white students at Columbian University; both universities were closed for several days while officials investigated what had happened. Thebiggest tragedy which befell Cambridge occurred on May 25th 1998 when four menkilled six people when their car overturned on Interstate 75 just outside the town limits; this event is known locally as "The Crash". Prior to this event locals had been concerned about increased traffic due to construction projects being undertaken within town limits at that time. On October 26th 1899 local resident Wm Hogg shot and killed three Indians who had taken up residence on his property east of mile marker 9 on Indian Creek.
