Bucyrus, Ohio is a small town in the Mahoning Valley of northeastern Ohio located on the southern edge of the Mentor-Aurora metropolitan area. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. The Bucyrus ZIP code is 44015. The first Europeans to visit what is now Bucyrus were French traders in 1695 who named it "Buckeye" for a Cedar tree that grew near the village. In 1792, John Law designed and built the first sawmill in what became Bucyrus. The town was platted in 1814 by James A. Hill and named for his father-in-law, Colonel Jonathan Bucyrus (1751–1825). The railroad arrived in 1847, bringing industry and growth to Bucyrus. By 1870, over 100 businesses had been erected within the limits of town Limits 2 and 3) including four banks, ten woolen mills (the largest being J & G Bennett), two cotton ginners, eleven shoe stores, three grocery stores and six taverns along with two schools - one public and one private - all operated by subscription or tuition. In 1875, an act of Congress designated land east ofState line as Township 4 Columbiana which included much of present day Mentor including parts of eastern Buckeye Township also annexed into Columbiana County during that same year; this made possible erection of part but not all of today's Mentor Village which developed adjacent to township boundaries between 1883 and 1915 due largely to federal government land acquisition following purchase by state government from Adolphus Ames heirs at auction in 1903 vernacular architecture characterized many early homes built around central square until eventually replaced by Bungalow/Novelty style after World War II when demand shifted towards more modern styles There are several buildings on Main Street still used as meeting places for local officials before they relocated to larger facilities such as Columbus City Hall or State House beginning in 1914 while others have been demolished since then: First Baptist Church building Replaced 1915; Second Presbyterian Church building Replaced 1922; Third Methodist Episcopal Church building Replaced 1924; Fourth United Methodist Church building Replaced 1925; Fifth Presbyterian Churches addition 1925 – these churches once served as either church buildings or schoolhouses until 1955 when both were torn down because their ceilings were unsafe without any supporting structure remaining .
