Bucyrus is a town in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is the only incorporated municipality in Muskegon County. The name of the town comes from an early settler named Nicholas Bucyrus and his family. The first known permanent settlers in what is now Bucyrus were Nicholas and his children: John, Mary, Nicholas Jr., John Sr., and Anna (née Cook). In 1812, another man by the name of Hubbard moved to this area with his family. By 1814 there were eight families living here. In 1816, a group of fifteen men from New York came upriver and founded a small post called Green Bay on what is now Middleburg Township east of present-day Hudsonville. They called their new community "Bucyrus". Eventually most of these people left for other parts of Michigan or for Canada because of religious persecution back then. In 1824, George Washington Stephenson built the first waterwheel on the river near modern-day Hudsonville after discovering it could be used to power tools downstream at that point. This started a long history of transportation withinMuskegon County which would eventually lead to more than one hundred miles (160 km) of railroads running through it by 1898! However, it wasn't until 1893 when Ohioan James Wickersham set out to do some surveys for Chicago's Northern Pacific Railroad and discovered that he had located what would become Bucyrus just south of his route along Shiawassee River – hence its namesake! The town was platted in 1892 by Jno Hickey as part of Muskegon Township

Bucyrus, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio that is located in the Muskingum County seat of Sandusky. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1812 by General Nathan Bucyrus and his family as a farming community on land granted to him by President James K. Polk during the American Civil War. The Bucyruses were among the first settlers in what would become Muskingum County and built their home on a hill overlooking downtown Sandusky. In 1868, Bucyrus opened up an agricultural store which continued to be open until it burned down in 1978. In 1916, Bucyrus erected a local high school which remains one of the area's most prominent landmarks today. The building also served as the preside over both city government for many years before it was replaced by new courthouse construction in 2000 and finally demolished in 2013 due to its age and decrepit condition; however, some portions have been preserved as part of a park district named after Nathan Bucyrus High School that now occupies much of downtown Sandusky
The first white settlement in the area was made by Captain John Bucyrus and his family in 1788. The settlement was located on the Scioto River, about three miles northeast of what is now Bucyrus. In 1813, Ohio became a state, and Captain Bucyrus donated land to the state for a public square. The square eventually became known as State Square in honor of him.
