Brunswick, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 11,481 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Stark County. It is located on the eastern edge of Akron County and has a total area of 26 square miles (75 km2). The first European to visit what is now Brunswick was Captain John Smith in 1614 when he explored the lower Great Lakes region for British traders. English explorer James Cook also visited Brunswick in 1793 during his third voyage around Asia and named it after King George II's home country, England; Cook sailed over land that later became part of Ontario. In 1813, General William Tecumseh Sherman decided to cross the Ohio River into Stark County from Mercer County east of Cleveland and rename it as Shermanstown in honor of General Sherman's achievements during World War I as Assistant Commanding Officer, Fifth Corps Area Command VII US Army Reserve Infantry Division (the "Allied forces" occupying northeastern Germany). In 1871, a group of Germans who had fled their homes near Dayton for fear they would be deported back to Germany started a small seed business called Deutsche Mohnbauer AG which grew into one of America's leading corn-production companies; today Deere & Company manufactures agricultural equipment across all segments including horticulture and forestry products as well as construction materials such as asphalt, concrete and fiberglass among others In 1896 Brunswick citizens voted unanimously to annex Union Township which lay north side of town on what is now South Side Road west of Interstate 71 That same year the first school building was erected at corner Main Street/State Route 422 just west of where Interstate 71 crosses Interstate 680 In 1909 Brunswick voters passed an ordinance establishing city government with a Mayor/Council with primary responsibility for finance, public works, education and defense while remaining connected through deputy mayors responsible for each department These designations were eliminated by City Charter Amendment No. 3 ratified by referendum on November 7th 1969 effective December 1st1969 After years without any major event or development notable until 2013 when plans emerged for an arts center adjacent to downtown redevelopment initiated by Mayor Tom Barrett who succeeded Mayor Barrett in 2018

Brunswick, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Ross County. Brunswick was founded in 1814 by General George Armstrong Custer as a military post on the Great Miami River, about halfway between Fort Wayne and Cincinnati. The post was abandoned in 1824 and became known as Macedon Township. The first settler in Brunswick was John Day, who arrived in 1825. In 1830, John Stephenson settled there with his family and began to open up the township to white settlement. In 1837, James Winchester settled there with his family and built Winchester House on what is now State Route 422 south of town. In 1840, Captain Amos Kendall established a store at Brunswick for sale to settlers east of the river; this store later became known as Kendall's Store (now part of downtown). In 1846–47, the United States government acquired much of present-day Ross County from Native American tribes under Treaty 7; twenty years later it ceded all but one square mile (0.8 km2) of Ross County to Ohio from Indiana Territory under Treaty 6; this area included what is now Brunswick. The Townsite Act created Brunswick as an incorporated village on July 1, 1850; it had no resident officials until November 15, 1861 when its first mayor was elected by vote from selectmen meeting at the Griffin House (now part of downtown). On December 12, 1865 Union general Ambrose Burnside ordered all Union troops out of Indiana Territory except for those guarding Cincinnati along the Kentucky border; so Burnside ordered township officials to disband their departments without giving any notice to residents or providing for replacements; these orders were revoked after complaints from some local residents who felt that they had not been given leave to do so. The last resident official died in office on January 3, 1966 when he was succeeded by his wife Mildred Bickerton Dowell III.; she served until her death on October 5th same year after having held office since May 4th 1965 when she took over as Mayor pro tempore following Mayor Dowell's resignation due to health concerns related to ageism within municipal government structures throughout America during that time period which caused many women mayors at that time period such as Bella Abzug and Shirley Chisholmto be shown disrespect because they were young female mayors at that time period unlike dowell who was 67 years old when she took office which made her more experienced than most male mayors then at that time period
Brunswick, Ohio was once a thriving community with a rich history. The town was founded in 1788 by George Washington and served as his headquarters during the Revolutionary War. In 1814, Brunswick became the capital of the United States of America. It remained an important city until it lost its status in 1951 when Columbus took over that role.Today, Brunswick is a small town located just outside of Columbus, Ohio.
