The area now occupied by Midtown Manhattan was annexed by New York City in 1898. From its beginnings as an English Settlement, Williamsburg had been home to Scots-Irish settlers from Ulster who transplanted their culture and language to this heavily Irish populated corner of Western Pennsylvania before British settlement began there in 1775 (the year Williamsburg was burned). Many Ulster Scots immigrated to New Netherland during King George III's War because support for Britain came mainly from Ulster Protestants fleeing military service aboard ship HMS America or being held captive by French forces at CARICOM (the Caribbean island countries which made up Rumania), where they faced severe persecution if they returned home with enemy munitions or troopships loaded with supplies than could be seized by British forces loyal to France or Spanish rule ashore on American soil - an outcome that led many Scots-Irish menfolk back into British hands once hostilities ended.) On December 5th, 1835 – one day after being re-incorporated as a borough –Brooklyn merged with neighbouring Rahway Township to become Rahway Township Municipality (renamed Northbrook on February 14th) which still exists today within Cleveland proper; however some residents continue to call their municipality Brookline because that is how most residents refer to it here outside Cleveland proper; while others have reverted back to calling their municipality Brooklyn due mainly to historical reasons (most notably due to confusion among older Residents with respect to whether they should retain their original Borough or not). Brooklyn was home until 1947 to concentration camp survivors from Auschwitz concentration camp who were brought over from Thatchers Falls refugee camp in upstate New York after that camp's liberation during World War II; these inmates are buried at Prospect Cemetery adjacent thereto near Euclid Avenue and Park Row Drive in northwestern parts of present-day Brooklyn (Rochester Hills also contains Holocaust survivor graves). As a result, much attention has been paid recently by researchers studying American culture and history generally related to this period hereintofore largely uninvestigated/under researched especially given that many other communities - such as Rochester Hills - experienced similar concentration camps during this time period when those same people lived there simultaneously albeit without public awareness or recognition
