However, becauseBrooklyn lacked open space on which developers could build high-rise apartments or other large-scale projects (due largely to zoning laws in place at the time), it languished until developer Felix Sater bought land adjacent to Prospect Avenue in rough shape in 1984 for $1 million and began developing it into one of Northeast Ohio's most recent "hoods". Today's Brooklyn is home to more than 50 businesses including five banks—JPMorgan Chase & Co., Bank One Corporation*, Wells Fargo & Company*, HSBC Holdings plc., Barclays PLC*—and seven news outlets: The Plain Dealer/The Herald Journal *(newspapers since 1978), WKYC-TV *(TV station founded in 1954), WBNS-TV *(radio station founded in 1920), WWJ-AM *(FM station established in 1905), KMBC-TV *(NBC affiliate)

Brooklyn, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Wayne County. The population was 17,844 at the 2010 census, making it the 11th-most populous city in Ohio. It is part of the Cleveland−Akron−Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. Brooklyn is located on what once were two separate Indian reservations—the Ottawa reservation and the Seneca reservation—in central Lucas County and was founded by Dutch farmers in 1664 as Fort Amsterdam. The first settler to arrive in what would become Brooklyn was Johannes de Graaf who arrived from Holland in 1665 as part of a group of colonists known as "The New Netherlanders." The city continued to grow until 1945 when World War II began with an increase in traffic due to wartime production at shipyards along Lake Erie; this increased traffic caused severe pollution problems that continue to this day. After Hiroshima had been bombed on August 6th 1945 by Japan’s atomic bomb campaign – resulting in heavy losses for Japan’s military forces – American troops invaded Japan on September 2nd 1945 leading up to surrender ceremonies over Tokyo Bay on September 9th 1945; during these ceremonies General Douglas MacArthur pronounced Brooklyn “abandoned by all civilized nations save Japan” effective immediately following capitulation; consequently, most residents left or were evacuated before Japanese authorities could take control On February 1st 1946 Mayor James Meehan announced plans for annexation into Euclid Township due to increasing poverty rates within borough boundaries despite efforts by Borough President Maurice Whelan to keep them low; however opposition from Borough President Julius Rosenwald prevented annexation until May 1949 after Rosenwald bought out Meehan’s interests
