Brook Park is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 37,898. The city is located in the southwestern part of Ohio on the Scioto River. It is bordered by Mentor to the east, Cincinnati to the south, and Trumbull County to the west. Brook Park was founded in 1817 as part of what would become central Ohio. The name "Brook" comes from several streams that flow through it - one called Brookville Creek and another Brookville Stream/Ridge Road. In 1822, a post office was established at Brook Park with David Green as its first superintendent. The first school in town was opened in 1824 by Rev John Tellis, an Irishman who had moved to America for religious reasons and settled near what is now downtown Brook Park. A new school building was built on this site in 1865-66 by local contractor James Henshaw Jr., who designed it himself using items he had acquired while living in Dublin, Ireland during his earlier years as an artist and teacher thereabouts. The structure still stands today - used as a branch library until 2009-10 - and can be seen from Interstate 70 just north of town limits (exit 25). In 1830s-1930s many skilled artisans lived here including joiners, carpenters, painters etc.; various businesses flourished also such as bakery (1831), shoe store (1848) & livery stable (1868). Several churches were built around this time including First Methodist Church (1835), Presbyterian Church (1836), African American Baptist Church(1838) & Greek Orthodox Cathedral(1927). Thanks to improvements made throughout much of 20th century suburbanizationMentor became less accessible to downtown businesses which led to decline& discontinuationof most services; some remaining services have been provided by 3rd party entities notably public works department [now known as City Services Department], water heater rental company & since 2005 community pool! In recent decades Downtown business development has resumed although inconsistent with overall trend; many new restaurants started up but few remain open due primarily to lack of demand or competition from newer restaurants located elsewhere within walking distance

The town was founded on July 4, 1828 by American Revolutionary War veteran and landowner William Brook. Brook Park enjoyed great prosperity during its early years thanks to its location and rich agriculture soil. However, by 1830 Brook Park's population had dwindled to just three residents due to lack of available land and increased competition from larger towns in the area. Due to persistent efforts by local officials, however, Brook Park regained its former prosperity by 1840 when it became the site of the first public school in Cleveland County {thus fulfilling one of America's earliest educational goals}. In addition,brook park also boasted several miles (km) long private docklines that served as commercial water transportation for firefighters and other emergency services during Lake Erie flooding events throughout the late 19th century and early 20th century. The success of these endeavors led to new businesses being established withinbrook park including The Black Horse Tavern (founded 1865), Jethro Tull Brewery (1868), and The Cannery Company (1901).
