Brook Park is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, founded in 1811 by Joshua Brook and others as a center for horse breeding and trade. The population was 37,878 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern border of Cleveland County. The area now called Brook Park was part of the land grants given to Joshua and his wife Hannah by President George Washington in 1796. The founding date of Brook Park is written about on two small stones found near today's intersection of State Route 7 (now US- 23) and State Route 8 (now I-675). One stone says "July 4th - 1796" while the other says "January 1st - 1811". Joshua had been born in Northumberland, England, on July 4th, 1746; he immigrated to America with his parents at age 10. His father was a carpenter who also owned land in what is now Cleveland Heights. When Joshua was 15 years old, he married Hannah Greenough, daughter of Nicholas Greenough Sr., an established merchant and political figure in Plainfield Township (later Cleveland County). They lived first on a farm near their home before moving to what is now Orchard Road/State Route 7 NW after one year living in a cabin built by their parents on an island in Lake Erie. In 1802 they bought 640 acres from Captain John Sayler for $1 per acre (the same price that would be paid today for land within walking distance of downtown Cleveland). After two years residing at Orchard Road/State Route 7 NW, they moved back into their original home when it became too difficult to maintain the farm due to bad weather conditions including floods caused by high water levels created during heavy rains months earlier that year. In 1805 they acquired another 640 acres which included present day Hillcrest Drive SW between Euclid Avenue NE and Saginaw Avenue NE; this property became known as Oldebrook Plantation after them purchasing it from Colonel Adam Brownrigg Jr.. Brook Park is a township in the northern part of Clinton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,136 at the 2000 census. It was created in 1827 and named for John Brook, an early settler. Brook Park is located along the Scioto River near its confluence with the Maumee River. The township includes parts of the unincorporated community of Brookfield and the villages of Arlington Heights and Wellesley Hills. The first white settlers arrived in what is now Brook Park in 1827. They were led by Colonel James Davenport, who surveyed the area for land grants. One grant was to Colonel John Brooks, who donated land to make Brook Park its name. As time went on, other families also settled in what is nowBrook Park including Isaac Watts and his family from Wilmington Township (now Delaware), Timothy Hennigan from Cuyahoga Falls (now Cleveland), and Ebenezer Cobb from Sandusky (now Akron). In 1836, a post office called "Hillsboro" was established in what is now Arlington Heights; it remained open until 1898. In 1840, a post office called "Wellesley" was established; it remained open until 1907. In 1847, a post office called "Arlington Heights"was established; it remains open today. Brook Park had one school district until 1958 when it became part of Clinton-Van Wagoner School District #2
Brook Park is a village in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,857 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Area. The village was platted on March 10, 1836, by commissioners of the new general government of Ohio under the auspices of a bill introduced by John Fenton and approved by the General Assembly on November 17 that year. The name "Brook" comes from two Wyandot Indians who had been killed near what is now Brook Park in 1813 and interred there. In 1838, a sawmill built on Little Brook Creek by Nicholas Vail generated such high demand for logs that lumber companies began to operate in Brook Park as early as 1840. By 1850,brook park had become one of the largest logging areas in central Ohio. In 1865-66 when Cleveland's first electric power plant was built along Erie Boulevard east of Euclid Heights it contributed greatly to the Village's economic development because mills could be powered by electricity instead of water wheels which required constant care and maintenance. Brook Park experienced several major fire outbreaks during its history including one starting in 1902 that destroyed 550 acres (2 km²) of forest west of town before being put out with water hoses; another started in 1922 and destroyed over 3 acres (1 km²) east of town before being contained using bulldozers; and another started on October 1st 2006 and caused $10 million (€7 million) worth damage to homes and businesses within a radius around downtown Cleveland before finally being contained less than an hour later with explosives detonated through an opening found inside an abandoned factory building adjoining town limits
