The community takes its name from then-U.S. Rep James Meeks who represented Cleveland's Brooklyn neighborhood from 1978 to 1984 and again from 1990 to 1994. The borough he represented has since been annexed into Cleveland proper, but Brooklyn's Meeksville still contains significant housing developments within its borders and ZIP code 21613 remains postal code for most residents living there today (although it does have its own community center). Brook Park was developed on land that once served as a research site for Westinghouse Electric Laboratories adjacent to Hillsboro Airport and other industrial sites used during World War II and later by Chrysler Corporation, Ford Motor Company, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and other companies including Brownells Electronics Corporation which manufactured electronic components until it went bankrupt in 2000; some buildings remain standing today unused as commercial or office space following their closure in that time period According to the 2000 US Census estimate, Brook Park had a population of 354 people; however this number did not reflect recent annexations within Cleveland proper - those residents now live in neighborhoods such as Euclid Heights or Tremont Center - so according to 2015 estimates, Brook Park's population stands at 401 with no plans yet underway to annex any more territory

Brook Park is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 6,521 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Marshall County Micropolitan Statistical Area and is located on the southern edge of Cleveland, nestled among rolling hills and forests. The first settler in what would become Brook Park was George Washington Carver, who purchased land on the west side of town in 1875 from John A. Parker. Carver founded Brookpark Academy which still operates today as one of the leading private academies in America. He also donated land to build a public school that served the town until 1915 when it was replaced by Browns Hill Elementary School and then by Central High School which now serves as Brookpark's main high school. Brook Park had its beginnings as an agricultural community with small-scale farming being done using hand-held tools and horse drawn vehicles hauled overland to marketplaces near where water could be found for irrigation purposes. By 1900, however,brook park had developed into a well-developed township with two churches (the First Presbyterian Church and Good Shepherd Lutheran) two schools (Central High School and Villa Rica School) four businesses (Gardener's Supply Co., Fertilizer Store, Hardware Store, Mrs.'s House), three miles of road (now known as Memorial Drive), five families providing labor for local farms (Farmsville Creamery & Cheese Co., Stone Mill Lumber & Grain Co., Wagon Wheel Lumber & Sawmill), six residents classified as " employees" or "nonresident proprietors" Farmingdale Dairy No 1 LLC; four dairy farmers were doing milking operations supplemented by cooperatives such as Farmers National Bank - Agricultural Service Company Incorporated; United States Rubber Company - Rubber Factory Concentrate Warehouse; Union Carbide Corporation - RefineryOperations
In 1851, the Ohio General Assembly created Brook Park in central Ohio as a public park. The park was named for John Brockenbrough, an early settler in the area. Brockenbrough donated land to the state for the park and also helped to create it as a natural resource preserve. Brook Park is home to a number of interesting landmarks, such as the Cleveland Museum of Art and Asia House.
