Broadview Heights is a small town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 730 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. Broadview Heights is located on the east bank of the Cuyahoga River and has a mixture of American and Ukrainian-American cultures. The name "Broadview Heights" comes from two streets in the town: Broadwalk and Boulevard. As early as 1811, several families had settled in what is now Broadview Heights, including those of Captain John Armstrong (1763-1835), one of America's first successful fur traders; his son James Armstrong (1795-1871); Captain William Flemming (1800-1870); his brother-in-law Andrew Mellon (1822-1900); and their cousin John Drysdale (1786-1860). In 1823, General George Washington visited Broadview Heights while on a military march through Hamilton County; he was so impressed with its natural beauty that he ordered all military officers to settle here instead of Richmond. This initial success led to further development in Broadview Heights by entrepreneurs such as Captains John Armstrong and James Armstrong II, who began manufacturing rifles, pistols, shotguns, saddles, harnesses and other items used by farmers and soldiers. In 1827 Colonel Adam Clayton Powell bought land just east of present day Market Street from Captain James Armstrong II for $25 per acre. He named it "Powell's Valley" after himself and developed it into one of Greater Cleveland's first commercial areas with mills at North Main Street/Highway 6W between Euclid Avenue/Old York Road and today's Grand Boulevard/Avondale Road junction area. At this time much attention was paid to railroads which were becoming increasingly important for transporting goods throughout the region due to their ability to move large quantities quickly across large distances without having to build physical stations or warehouses like earlier wagon roads did. That same year saw also another major milestone when Erie Canal boats carrying cattle arrived here from Buffalo Bayou — thus beginning what would become known as “The Great Lakes Region” trade which led directly to America’s industrial Revolution! In 1830 Reverend Amos Corwin purchased 320 acres west of present day Park Avenue from Captains James Armstrong II & Andrew Mellon for $10 per acre – soon followed by others in an ever expanding area called "The Hill Country". This section lies along present day Highways 10E & 171W between Tower Road & Willowbrook Drive NW corner today's Strongsville Avenue NE corner near Lake Erie shoreline north side near Fairfield Avenue SE corner crossing over Ionia river today's Avondale Rd./daytona Ave SW corner adjacent Topsham State University campus

The first school bus service to shuttle students to schools outside of Akron began operations on November 5th that year when Mrs. Lizzie Crouse purchased an old Ford Model T from the car dealership across the street from the elementary school for use as our first bus stop during morning pickups/dropoffs for all three schools within our community (Bedford High School/defiant high school), catering specifically to our then small but growing neighborhood “within walking distance”! In 1938-39 broadVIEW HEIGHTS annexED THE NEARBY STARK COUNTY COMMUNITY OF REDBURN TWP., BETWEEN DEFIANCE TOWNSHIPS & BEDFORD TOWNSHIP – A TRANSITION VILLAGE THAT HAD BEEN OPERATING FOR YEARS BEFORE THIS INCIDENCE! THIS ACTION WAS EFFORTED BY CITY MANAGEMENT TO PROVIDE SERVICES TO OUR NATIONWIDE POPULATION THAT WERE NOT YET PROVIDED IN OUR AREA!!
