Broadview Heights is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the eastern edge of Cleveland. The population was 69,713 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. Broadview Heights was once a vibrant community with large Manufacturing businesses and families, but has recently lost some of its former industry and home values have decreased significantly in recent years due to new development around Cuyahoga Valley National Park and other factors such as gentrification. In 1853, John Wesley Powell discovered what would become known as Lake Erie while exploring for oil near present-day Sandusky, Ohio; he named it after his mentor, John Lloyd Wright's father-in-law poet and teacher, Jonathan Edwards (1727–1803). In 1855, landowner Major General Solomon Graves donated 2 township lots in what would become Broadview Heights to the town of Cleveland for $1 per acre (0.40 pesos per km²). The first settler in Broadview Heights was James Hennepin (c 1792–1860), who purchased an estate along Euclid Avenue from General Graves on July 1st, 1855. After moving into their house on Elm Street in BroadVIEW HEIGHTS - now known as "The Olde Worlde" - Hennepin and his wife began raising chickens before coming up with the name "Broadway". On December 12th 1860 they had their first child by cohabitation only 5 months later when they married Anna Ladd (1847–1921) also from Euclid Avenue In 1868 Darius Noyes platted what became Live Oak Township north of downtown Cincinnati & east of where Broad VIEW HEIGHTS now stand; this plat formed much of what is today called Northeast Ohio Land Grant Township No #2 which broadened boundaries to include much more land than that originally given including parts of Center City & University Circle today known as Downtown Cleveland On May 8th 1870 James Wickerham gave birth to his only son Franklin Wilmot Wickerham here at 3rd & Elm Streets – now known as "The Green House." shortly thereafter Mrs Wickerham moved out West End Avenue’s 2nd story bedroom window onto Burr Road which led directly to her death – having been spooked by a robber attempting to rob them just minutes earlier while she slept
Broadview Heights was founded in 1824 by John Broad and his wife, Sarah. It is the oldest continuously inhabited municipality in Hamilton County. The village became a city on November 3, 1905.
